Since the Civil War the shovel has always been a weapon.
Will this start a new saying “Dont bring a gun to a shovel fight”??
At least no one will be able to say “Dont bring a shovel to a gun fight”
“....After killing the jihadist, the British sergeant used the enemy’s gun to kill more militants.”
After killing the jihadist, the British sergeant used the enemy’s gun, resting the muzzle on the severed head, to kill more militants.
He shoveled off to Buffalo......................
Wondering if he will face punishment from the brass. Using a shovel to kill someone? Doesn’t sound Geneva Convention like to me.
True, but I’ve never met a civil war veteran who told me so. ;)
May have to disagree with you on that one:
I lugged a m203 and full loadout for that in addition to my normally carried m67s.
We carry a lot heh.
My kind of southern neighbor heh.
Real man doing what needs doing.
He don’t need no Steenkin’ badges!
The British citizenry know what it feels like to face these sheep-bleepers unarmed.
Now THAT is a man. I bet the British military, if it has more like him, sort of resents their libtard government literally giving their country away to bearded subhuman Muzzlime savages. Bad enough he has to off them abroad, only to come home and find “no go” areas in his own country. To HECK with that!
During the Siege of Petersburg both sides threw bricks at each other. Primitive fighting....
I think it’s basically the warrior mind set.
A friend of mine (former Marine company commander) told his son that unless he was willing and able to kill man with a toaster or a brick that he should think about another branch of the service.
He had seen it done and didn’t want to give the young man the impression that the Marines were anything but warriors.

1914-1918
“Mary Postgate” (A Diversity of Creatures)
It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late
With long arrears to make good,
When the English began to hate.
They were not easily moved,
They were icy-willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the English began to hate.
Their voices were even and low,
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show,
When the English began to hate.
It was not preached to the crowd,
It was not taught by the State.
No man spoke it aloud,
When the English began to hate.
It was not suddenly bred,
It will not swiftly abate,
Through the chill years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the English began to hate.
They wouldnt issue me a tomahawk so I had to keep my E-tool razor sharp!
During WWII, the men of USS O’BANNON (DD450), while at very close quarters with a surfaced Japanese submarine, threw potatoes at the Japanese deck gun crew successfully distracting them from manning their gun. O’BANNON used the time to back off to a more respectable range and engage the submarine with guns, damaging it. O’BANNON then sank the submarine with a depth charge attack.
After reading “All Quiet On The Western Front”, I decided to purchase an entrenching shovel. I bought a U.S. surplus folding one which is a wonderful shovel but not ideal for fighting.
After maybe 30 years, I ordered two “Cold Steel” ones and was surprised that they came sharpened on the sides. I was a little disappointed that they were made in Taiwan but they did appear to be good quality.
I decided to sharpen them a bit more and that steel is tough. I do think I had rather have a real battle axe but the spades would certainly be effective.

The only “ethic” of war is to win.
