Donald Trump rises with Steve Bannon’s fall
NBC News ^ | JAN 4 2018, 7:42 PM ET | JONATHAN ALLEN

Steve Bannon has unified the Republican Party — against Steve Bannon.

And President Donald Trump stands to benefit most from his former chief strategist's comeuppance.

Without Bannon barking in his ear — and nipping at the heels of Republican senators — it will be easier for Trump to deliver on the remainder of a legislative agenda that threatens to strain his base over issues such as federal spending, government wiretaps and immigration.

Similarly, a weakened Bannon figures to have less firepower to challenge sitting Republican senators — and imperil Trump's GOP majority — in this year's midterm elections.

I don’t really see that fewer allies and boots on the ground are somehow more. I don’t know what the hey is going on with Bannon, and if he is “fighting for his life” he is doing so silently.

Crazy enough NBC is correct BUT this was already going on. Just because POTUS FINALLY opened his mouth about Bannon due to this book coming out doesn’t mean he was buddies with him. He was fired months ago.

Notice as soon as Bannon was fired the leaks stopped, and POTUS was able to get the tax reform passed. Bannon was suspect to me as he constantly tried to gas up hate against Jared Kushner and some others in the WH by leaking crap.

Anyway, I’m about SCOTUS in the end, because that is the ONE THING that the left cannot undo if we get another two appointees.
They can always reverse a travel ban, reverse any immigration enforcement, and any tax cut when they eventually get back into power.

A couple of 40-something conservatives on SCOTUS will be a major impact.

If the Bush League Republicans sucker him into an amnesty and then he campaigns for their re-election, he will have become a swamp creature.

Yes true, but I think we all need to stop buying into the hype that Bannon was DJT’s soul and brain. Trump has been railing against unfair trade and cheap labor for years.
He also gave speeches about immigration and jobs before Bannon came onto his campaign.

Stop thinking because there isn’t a bunch of conflict with the GOP leadership that POTUS is selling out. Do you want stuff done, or do you just want a bunch conflict?

We have the power to do it, lets get it done.

Fake news. Election fraud, not Bannon, lost Alabama Senate.

And Trump supporting the clear loser did not help.

Trump appointed Kelly to the post of White House Chief of Staff on July 28, 2017

Bannon fired AUG. 18, 2017

So yea...

Gee, they were so quick to point out that Trump doesn’t actually have a “red button” but I suppose it’s too much to ask them to accurately describe the surveillance program...

Wise up there wasn’t election fraud, the republicans stayed home.

Moore lost two statewide elections before his run for senate. Clearly he wasn’t beloved in his state.

Bannon wasn’t barking in POTUS ear.

After the campaign in the WH all he did was cause chaos apparently, and was a big source of leaks.

I know President Trump really does want to end illegal alien problems.
I do not think he will get suckered.
He should not cozy up too much with the Bush League.
They really do need to go.

Interesting. Considering the populist policies on which Steve Bannon and President Trump supposedly agree, what will happen if the President starts moving away from the populist policies which Bannon—as well as the President's base—supports?

Is this going to end up as some kind of backdoor method for the GOPe to reclaim influence by inducing the President to move away from Bannon in terms of policy as well? It seems like somebody could be setting that up...

Bannon was fired after the University of Virginia march by White Nationalists when that woman was run over.

Bannon’s resignation was already set for a few weeks. You’re lost on this one.

Either way, Kelly coming on board and Bannon’s “resignation” was only a few weeks apart.
You stated the leaks stopped not because Bannon left but because Kelly became WH Chief of Staff, and my point is that they basically happened in the same time frame.

Why you brought up the Charlottesville nonsense is beyond me.

I brought it up because Bannon caught a lot of flack.

Roger Stone really nailed this on Tucker’s show tonight. 100% of the MAGA agenda was worked out well before Bannon by DJT. Trump is not the typical politician who really needs a “staff”. He is his own strategist, his own political consultant, his own media expert, and most of the time his own speechwriter. Bannon came via the Mercers after Jared and Ivanka convinced Rebekah Mercer to support Trump after Cruz collapsed, and that brought Kellyanne (who was running the Cruz PACs) and Bannon who was at Breitbart. Now Bannon has blown up that bridge so he’s on his own, and I am not at all convinced he didn’t do this for a very good reason - to help Trump just as this article says is happening. Bannon has his flaws but he believes in MAGA, although he may not think Trump is the one best able to make it happen.
