WASHINGTON — President Trump gave firm instructions in March to the White House’s top lawyer: stop the attorney general, Jeff Sessions, from recusing himself in the Justice Department’s investigation into whether Mr. Trump’s associates had helped a Russian campaign to disrupt the 2016 election.
Public pressure was building for Mr. Sessions, who had been a senior member of the Trump campaign, to step aside. But the White House counsel, Donald F. McGahn II, carried out the president’s orders and lobbied Mr. Sessions to remain in charge of the inquiry, according to two people with knowledge of the episode.
Mr. McGahn was unsuccessful, and the president erupted in anger in front of numerous White House officials, saying he needed his attorney general to protect him. Mr. Trump said he had expected his top law enforcement official to safeguard him the way he believed Robert F. Kennedy, as attorney general, had done for his brother John F. Kennedy and Eric H. Holder Jr. had for Barack Obama.

A new book, “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House,” by Michael Wolff, says that the president’s lawyers believed that the statement was “an explicit attempt to throw sand into the investigation’s gears,” and that it led one of Mr. Trump’s spokesmen to quit because he believed it was obstruction of justice.

Why wouldn’t Trump ask Sessions to make sure there were no shenanigans going on in regards to the Russian investigation? This seems like a completely reasonable and lawful request to me. I don’t see any obstruction here.

What “false” statement “dictated” to whom? & how would the NYT know Mueller is “looking” at it. Nothing but inferred innuendo posing as a news story.

The “false” statement was the way they would spin the Don Jr meeting. It was for the press. It was not under oath or part of any investigation, so it is irrelevant. if political spinning is illegal, all of Washington will be jailed.
Also, the NYT article makes it clear that Comey was not fired to obstruct the investigation. He was fired for insubordination for refusing to publicly admit that Trump was not under investigation.
NYT by far makes the best undisputed bird cage liner, for any other uses caution is advised as its applications are questionable at best.

This article shows how desperate Mueller and Comey are. They thought they had their Coup wrapped up.
Nope. Sorry. Dirty Come is getting exposed for the corrupt Deep State that he is.
Congress is connecting the dots and all the Dirty Comey, Obama 2016 corruption at the FBI and DOJ is getting exposed in real time.
They may have gotten away with their corruption if they had moved on after Trump had won. But noooooo, the Deep State was furious and instead of moving on, waiting for the next election, they implemented plan ‘Insurance Policy’ otherwise known as the fake dossier, Shout Out to McCain for hand delivering it to the FBI in November 2016...
They couldn't leave it alone. They thought they could use their access and control over OUR government to take down Trump before and after the election. Trump gave them the benefit of the doubt but they came at him hard, he found out he was under surveillance as President Elect.... Comey came after him in Jan 2017.
And now gloves are off. Dirty Comey, Mueller et al. are on the ropes and articles like this are even more proof they are scared.
