Taiwan's top court has ordered a dentist to pay his mother around Tw$22.33 million (S$1 million) as reimbursement for the money she spent raising and educating him.
The supreme court Tuesday upheld a previous ruling that the 41-year-old, identified by his family name Chu, should honour a contract he signed with his mother 20 years ago promising to refund her.
The plaintiff, surnamed Lo, divorced her husband in 1990 and raised their two sons on her own. Worried that nobody would look after her when she got old, Lo signed the contracts with her sons after they both turned 20, stipulating that they must pay her 60 per cent of the net profit from their incomes.

Contract Law is already here.
Did you notice this little detail?
“to honour a contract he signed with his mother 20 years ago promising to refund her.”
Actually, it’s diminishing here.
60% of his net profits, though? Geez. Mom’s kind of a piranha.
I noticed she waited until they were 20...................
“Sorry, mom. I haven’t made a profit yet. Distribution costs and all that.”
Ooh, I’m calling my sons right now! ;-)
Who would want to take that much from their kid?
Sounds like a contract of adhesion.
A good lawyer and accountant can take care of that.
“Let’ see. Deducting for wife, kids, mistress, condo, ski vacations, cruises...seems I’m in the red. Looks like you owe me $100,000.00, ma!”
Dude needs a Hollywood accountant stat!
Yea, a little on the greedy side. She probably assumed they would not become financially successful.
Great strategy, though. I wish I had thought of this a few years back. I might be able to retire....
I don’t like deceptive headlines.
Headline should read “Wealthy dentist tries to weasel out of contract with his own mother!”
Show me the receipts.
I find it hard to believe she spent 1 million dollars raising him in Taiwan.
But, but, people who have kids are not selfish...

Indeed!
Raising and Dental School....Cost....PLUS INTEREST!!
