The real problem is the “trillion dollars is OK now” mentality in Congress every year that a budget is drawn up.
That was supposed to be a one-time thing in 2009 to get the economy going again, and now Congress can’t ever seem to lower the budget to pre-2009 levels.
And at a trillion dollars every year, there’s still a LOT of cutbacks that need to be made in the budget, and Congress has got to change its “deficits are no big deal” attitude.
I'm sure you did not actually believe them when they said that...
Don’t forget that “trillion” does not show in the budget. It’s an “off book” slush fund.
