Given what happened, I’d settle for little round trackside signs with posted speeds! Unlike cars, trains “don’t drift corners very well at all!” And I’ve never seen a train “spin out!”
The PTC system on that locomotive has GPS. Multiple redundant GPS receivers. The system wasn’t cut in yet. If it was cut in, PTC would have stopped that train as soon as it violated the first speed restriction.
This kind of crap coming from Amtrak is the whole reason for the federal PTC mandate in the first place.
