The increase in absences recently prompted Puerto Rico Police Chief Michelle Hernandez to recommend that U.S. National Guard soldiers help fill the temporary vacancies.

They should be told that if they do not return to work and stop this nonsense they will not only forfeit their overtime, but also their jobs.

They are replaceable.

They will receive their overtime when the crisis is over and the government can pay it.

Please, can we cut these people off now? Let us each go our own way.

PR is the most socialist state - well, sort of - in the US. You have to realize that many Puerto Ricans got their political formation in NYC, where they learned from the worst.

PR has huge numbers of government employees (as does NYC) and it is the dream of every child to grow up and become a civil “servant.”

They had a good governor a few years ago who tried to get private industry going and was pretty successful - but the municipal unions got rid of him.
