Costco in New Orleans is actually on the edge of one of THE most crime ridden neighborhoods near Uptown universities. The company got tons of tax concessions and other incentives to build there. So it was more like social welfare than corporate sense. Sams is on the outskirts of the city, in the suburbs-Kenner and Metairie. Location really doesn’t matter when it comes to the demographics of the N.O. area. It is primarily poor, black and very mobile criminal types. They fill up the Lexus with friends and go ‘shopping’, trashing the stores, returning half eaten food for refunds(which they get-no questions dared) and filling up flats with EBT merchandise. It’s a losing battle. The theft/shoplifting is growing and the enlightened management from more civilized cities think things like SELF checkout will help.Trusting thieves always works, right? For the life of me I don’t know why ANYONE bothers to pay-just walk out with what you want. What if an entire store full of people did that? They won’t confront/chase thieves now, how could they stop hundreds at a time? Then there is the added ‘atmosphere’ of trash people letting their kids actually defecate in the middle of aisles or dragging them around telling them to ‘shut the F... up! When the demographics are against you all you can do is shop online and hope those who created the ‘food deserts’ enjoy them.

Until we're willing to step into ‘the conversation’ and unequivocally explain to the ‘black community’ that they don't have nice stores because the costs of doing business in the black community is too high - - things will not change.

Commerce rejection has NOTHING to do with skin color and everything to do with rejection of the underclass criminal culture that has taken over much of the black community.

For COSTCO and Sam's to pretend otherwise might make their liberal elite executives feel good about themselves but the unreality presented to the honest people in the black community (people who are trying to pull their communities away from the criminals) is a slap in the face.

A saner approach would be to offer memberships - and if anyone is caught stealing they lose their membership and are given a prorated refund of what they paid. In time this incentive allows the 'winners' to be the honest black citizens and losers to be the criminals. It's a naturally health incentive patterns that in the long run restores sanity to the black community. (Yes, before the great society 'incentives from hell' the black community had stores and commerce)
