At nine years-old I was riding my bike to school over a mile away an hour before school began so I could have first dibs to set out cones and stop cars on the corner where Donelle Lee crossed every morning on her way to school.
The weekends were a roaming adventure miles from home.
Being a nine year-old in a car by yourself while parents shop is a rite of passage.

That pellet gun may have been in the fps range for a pellet to penetrate the perp’s skull. Running away was the best response.

A 9 year old is not a baby in a car seat.
In the late 50s, I had a Hahn replica SAA CO2 B.B. gun. It had faux stag grips, a 5.5” bbl and looked and hefted for all the world like the real thing. I used my leather Mattel “ fanner 50” holster and wore it around the woods. I was pretty proficient with twirling it to. It’s ultimate demise was from twirling it and dropping it. It looked too real for one to want to stay around if someone pointed it at you.
Ralphie needs a Garand! Or a real lever gun.
Ralphie should stick to air guns. How about the models that use compressed air? Some of them shoot decent sized bullets at firearm speeds with not a lot of noise, no smoke, and no residue.

I need to rid my property occasionally of vermin. I’m too close to neighbors to use loud firearms. CB cap .22 shorts make less noise than a pump up or CO2 pellet gun and are as powerful or more powerful than high power .177 pellet guns. Remington advertised them as ‘quiet as popcorn’

So sick of the stupid attitudes toward the competence of children. Can’t be “unattended”, but it’s okay to teach a 9-year-old about sex and how to “protect” against pregnancy.
