Republicans care about voter fraud; Democrats want to come out ahead, says study

When it comes to voter ID laws, Republicans care intensely about fraud while Democrats worry more about whether their own party will come out ahead, according to a provocative new academic study that challenges conventional assumptions about what motivates support for stricter voting laws.

Voting-rights activists have long accused GOP officeholders of racism or political expedience in fights over voting laws, but the study suggests that at least for average voters, Republicans’ support is a good-faith assessment of dangers they see in illegal voting.

Republicans respond to even small reports of voter fraud, seeing them as a reason to back stricter voting access, according to the research by John V. Kane, a professor at New York University, whose study was published in the latest Public Opinion Quarterly.

Democrats, meanwhile, generally support voter-ID but their support is less firm. If told the GOP would suffer from stricter voter-ID laws, Democrats become more supportive, Mr. Kane found.

“There’s different concerns in both camps. Republicans really do appear to be super-concerned about fraud and Democrats not so much. Democrats really appear to be concerned about the electoral implications, not so much fraud,” Mr. Kane told The Washington Times.

They backed slavery as long as it helped them at the polls.

Backed?

They still do!

Just that it’s called ‘undocumented immigrants’ nowadays.

This goes hand-n-hand with how R’s deal with any kind of sexual innuendo from a million years ago: bounce the candidate out on his/her ears.

OTOH, for a ‘Rat, stealing money, stealing votes, rapes, felonies and homicide are mere resume enhancers. Even treason - resume enhancement.

This is a HUGE tell regarding Republicans and Democrats as people.

As a ...Republican, I wouldn’t want to win dirty. I think most conservatives feel the same.

Average democrats tho... they snark and grin if they know they cheat and get away with it.
And I’m talking about some relatives.

Being Democrat is a character flaw.

As a conservative I’m concerned that my vote will be cancelled out by a fraudulent vote. Deceit and lies make my blood boil.

The most essential difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans care more about the law and the rules than the outcome, and Democrats care more about the outcome than the law and the rules.

Yes, there are other differences, but this is the essential difference.

It’s wired into our DNA on both sides, and it is the unbridgeable chasm.

There is a difference in the two parties...one wants to win. The dims understand political power. All Leftists understand this.

Exactly.

Progressives do not care about truth or the rule of law, or limited government or the Constitution.

They care about getting and keeping power.

Two issues with this article:

1) Why is this even a question? Requiring IDs is not inherently racist. Case closed. If getting an ID is too difficult somewhere (it’s not), then a state should make it easier.

2) “Mr. Kane suggested that fraud is a slim problem, saying that over the last 15 years there have been 31 incidents — out of 1 billion ballots cast — of a voter trying to impersonate someone else at the polls.” How can you determine if fraud exists where there are no laws requiring ID?!??

Before I got on the Police force, I worked for a couple of years at a group home for mentally retarded individuals. The social workers there loaded all of them up in the vans and took them to the polls every election day and went into the voting booths with them. When I complained, I was told “it was their right”. These are folks that in some cases, could not even feed themselves.

I suspect you’d get similar results when it comes to race relations. Conservatives genuinely want everyone to thrive and get along but Dems secretly kinda like racial strife because it’s politically useful.

Liberals are racist for claiming minorities can’t obtain a voter ID.

Democrats need fraudulently documented foreigners voting to keep some seats and some undocumented Democrats in R jerseys need them to keep their seats (see McCain, Graham, Flake)
