“We serve seasonal American food, mostly vegetables, from farmers and partners as close to home as possible.”

Yawn... these folks are a liberal elite fashion statement... In 10 years they’ll be as ‘in’ as people who say ‘groovy’...

Yes, legally they can, without a doubt. It’s stupid, but their prerogative. The only way they could be compelled to accept the FRNs is if they provided the good or service first and allowed the other side of the transaction to have incurred a debt.

OK, got it.
The Feds are currently going the other direction, but they should bring back the $500. & $1K bills. The $100. isn’t what it used to be due to Fed inflation.

That’s enough attacks on other posters.

Leave the thread and do NOT come hack on it.

Please read what is printed on paper money. You are “REQUIRED” by law to accept US Currency for payment. No choice, required.

Ironic that the Libs who say it’s racist to expect ID to vote see nothing wrong with requiring credit/debit cards to purchase food.....

I think you are correct why the government encourages this.

But I part owned a bar a long time ago. Employee theft was a huge problem. Electronic money puts a big dent in this.

Cash is dying folks, get used to it. From a retailer viewpoint cash is a giant pain in the butt. It’s easy for employees to steal, it’s easy for other people to steal, it’s easy to mishandle, and an unfortunately high percentage is counterfeit. And that’s not even getting into the diseases and drugs that hang around on cash making your clerks sick. There’s a massive list of reasons to not take cash if you can help it.

Nope. It does not say anything about required. It says it’s CAN be. There’s only one organization on the planet that MUST take American cash dollar: the government. Everybody else is free to refuse.

Kalifornica is not actually part of the United States. They live in La-La Land.

"That is for “post-transaction”...if the merchant notifies in advance they can refuse cash:"

This transaction was payment for a meal. Unless they have a sign posted, "we do not accept payment in cash" (which they should), the merchant is stuck.

"They can walk out WITHOUT their food/purchase. How many places hand you your purchase BEFORE paying for it?"

The transaction was payment for a meal already eaten. At that point it is sort of hard to "walk out without their food". I guess they could stick a finger down their throat and barf it back up, but I would suspect the mechant "might" not want it back in that condition.

See, it's not hard at all.

"Until you’re in possession of a good or service you don’t owe a DEBT for it and the medium of consideration is still open to negotiation."

It was payment for a meal already eaten. The "debt" was a done deal.

Technically, they can’t (legally). We’ll see what happens.

No it wasn’t. READ the article. It was ordered. No good or service made it to her prior.

It was a take out order————not eat in-——reading the article will tell you that.

I read the part posted on FR. If the posting is clickbait requiring me to wade through a bunch of links to get good understanding, then forget it. Ain't going there. Write a GOOD excerpt, or don't post.

If it was takeout, all the better. Just leave the meal behind and walk out. ANY business who doesn't take cash simply won't get my business. And each state should require posting a sign to the effect of "don't accept cash" on the entry door(s).
