Here is what you need to know about the new veterans ID card

Tens of thousands of veterans have expressed interest in obtaining a new national Veterans Identification Card, intended as convenient proof of their service when they seek military discounts offered by retail and restaurant chains.

The high level of interest apparently was too much for the online application site — operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs at vets.gov — and temporarily knocked it offline not long after it was rolled out at the end of November.

Veterans Affairs has made improvements and is “monitoring the system regularly to ensure all veterans can access the application,” press secretary Curt Cashour said. The department was processing more than 5,500 completed applications and planned to release a digital version of the free ID card and an app for applying for the card on mobile devices, he said.

Yes, year round. You can also get your Lowe’s credit card updated to show veterans status and have the veteran’s discount taken off automatically when you use Lowes credit card.

It wasn’t like that. The old boys at the VFW didn’t like us because when we got back to the World, many of us stopping getting haircuts and shaving, smoked pot, rode loud motorcycles, drove sports cars fast on country roads, listened to loud rock and roll and made the two-backed beast with their daughters.

I know this bc of the number of high paid vets who work with me— if you make more than$ 80k you have no VA benefits. So they don’t bother.

I am a veteran with the IDF— we don’t make a wage distinction.

Actually it was rather mild, along the lines of “if the military’s official discharge document isn’t acceptable, what would be?” I suppressed the snide comment because the DMV lady was very nice and helpful; thus undeserving of a snide remark about a Socialist People’s Republic of Maryland rule.

” I showed them my retired ID card and they checked the block. They also said that a DD214 is valid proof of veteran status (snide comment suppressed).”

What’s with the ‘snide comment suppressed’ statement?

Ah, though it might have been along the lines of what the definition of a “veteran” is.
