GOP Has Puzzling Dearth of Opponents Vs. Sen. Menendez
Newsmax ^ | December 25, 2017 | Cathy Burke

Despite poor polling and a recent corruption trial that ended in a hung jury, Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., has few 2018 challengers because of the unpopularity of President Donald Trump and the GOP, Politico reported.

Richard Pezzullo, the runner-up in the New Jersey Republican 2014 Senate primary, is the sole candidate currently for the GOP nomination next year, the outlet reported.

He told Politico he, too, is puzzled by the lack of candidates.

That probably means that the GOPe (Globalist faction of Whig-Republicans) wants Mennendez to stay and continue his ‘work’.

The GOPe concedes everything.

They’ll fight like hell against a conservative though.

Not puzzling at all...the state is beyond corrupt, beyond fixing and if you run as a conservative you will get it from both sides.

Don’t you know it!
Ask Touche’ Turtle, when he’s done reading The Riot Act to Steve Bannon.
“....And furthermore...”

Why is this surprising? The Republicans never supported anyone who ran against Corrine Brown.

Yup. Nothing puzzling about it. In most cases the only difference between a Republican and Democrat here is the name.

As Rush often mentions, for Dems, corruption is a resume enhancer.

There are only a dozen or so republicans.

If the stories I hear are correct, the Republicans are flying south on a one-way ticket.

There are only a dozen or so republicans.

A few more in reality. Looking at that famous red/blue by-county election results map, my home is in that small red splotch in coastal Blue Jersey. Our county and the adjoining one to the south went Trump.

This isn’t puzzling. The only chance a Republican would have is if he’s convicted in a retrial. But if he’s convicted he will drop out and replaced by another Democrat who will win

Not puzzling at all. The state has an average IQ of 93. Rutgers University is a glorified junior college. As for Princeton, if it weren’t for the inspiration of Aaron Burr Sr. it would have been located in New York — and for all the good it does New Jersey now, it should have been.

Pezzulo is a decent guy. I’ve gotten to know him the last few years, supported him when he ran in the 2013 special election to replace Lautenberg, which Christie screwed us on by calling a special early elections to avoid Booker. He was a Cruz supporter and rabid Anti-Trumper, but has seen the light and seems to be an honest supporter of Trump these days. He won’t win, but Republicans max at about 43-44% in most elections here. It’s a shame but if the Republican party was cohesive here we might actually win an occasional election. I fully expect Tom Kean, Jr to run this time as well.

Clifford Case was the last Rep senator from NJ. He was elected in 1972–45 years ago. NJ is more Dem today.
