Why are so many Americans angry about a tax cut?
NY Post ^ | Dec 25, 2017 | John Crudele

Santa Trump gave American taxpayers a gift that they should have been thrilled and thankful to receive. Yet polls — starting from before the plan was actually passed — show that Americans hated the idea of a tax cut.

Quinnipiac’s poll, for instance, showed that just 25 percent of voters approved the plan. Other surveys — by ABC News and The Washington Post, CNN, Morning Consult and YouGov — put approval only slightly higher. But those were still nowhere near the support that past tax cuts received.

President Reagan’s first tax cut, in 1981, got a 51 percent approval rating. The 2001 tax cut by President George W. Bush got a 49 percent thumbs-up. An extension of the Bush cuts in 2010 got a 54 percent approval rating.

Even a tax hike in 1993 by President Clinton got a 34 percent approval rating.

Yet the average approval rating from all the polls for Trump’s tax cut was only 32 percent.

I know why I opposed what the Republicans were doing. With the US already $20 trillion in debt, I think it was unconscionable for Washington to change the tax laws in a way that will increase that debt by $1.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

But I’d be shocked if enough Americans took the long view like I did to bring the approval rating down to an average of just 32 percent.

With so much MSM propaganda against him it's a wonder the rating is so high. That will change when people start seeing how it benefits them in real time.

The makers love it, because they were paying taxes and will be getting a bit of a relief. The takers hate it because they did not pay taxes to begin with. You can’t have the takers dictate the laws or else they will always want to enslave the makers so keep the gravytrain flowing. The takers aren’t stupid when it comes to their gravytraain.

Fakestream presstitute polls aren’t designed to reflect public opinion, they are designed to manipulate it.

verses mostly silence on adding 9.3 trillion in debt over 8 years ? ...math is hard.

Because a lot of Americans don’t pay any taxes, but their lifestyles are dependent on others who do.

I’m beginning to hear rumblings of a problem in 2nd home markets, due to the loss of mortgage interest deduction. Don’t know how accurate it is or how severe a problem it might be if accurate, but I am hearing that.

Perhaps due to the moral perversion of progressive taxation?

It isn’t society’s responsibility to ensure that you get to own two homes.

"...polls — starting from before the plan was actually passed — show that Americans hated the idea of a tax cut."

Sure. Average Americans are opposed to having their taxes lowered. Can you believe the Quinnipiac pollsters reported that shameless lie with a straight face?

The left is too sick for words.

Trump will drop out any day now.
Polls show only ¡YEB! can beat Hillary.
Trump will never be the Republican nominee.

Far be it for me to knock you off your soapbox, but creating a problem in one area due to policy has a way of spreading. Look no further than the residential real estate crash of 2007 - 2008 and the financial contagion that followed, or look at the problems in 1987 during the Reagan era and the associated revisions to tax policy leading up to it. Regardless of your feelings regarding who’s responsibility is what, unintended consequences do have a way of landing in your lap. Try to remember that.

Of course most Americans are shaking with rage, saying “why can’t I be forced to give more of my money to the government”?
