No, state workers on road crews in Maine start at 13 per hour. They keep trying to recruit my son who makes 19 plus overtime. And pees clean, first time, every time. And they wont match his pay.
And he is moving into operations and a cool 25 to 30 per hour for dirt moving.
With the state he wouldn’t be moving dirt until the rest of the union dirt movers die, or go on disability.
The state benes are not all they are cracked up to be.
On my way into work late this afternoon was thinking City of Brewer and City of Bangor weren’t doing so great on today’s storm. US 1, US 1A, and SR 46 were plowed great. Speed limit all the way.

The 1950’s and 1960’s on Long Island were the “good ‘ole days.”
On the local evening news broadcast from Bangor, Maine, it was reported that some towns pulled the snow plows off the roads for awhile today due to “white out” conditions.
They resumed their plowing after a short time. Bangor received twelve inches of snow. Fortunately, it was a fast moving storm, and it’s now hammering the Canadian maritime provinces.

From what I’ve heard, the schools in northern-most Maine, Aroostook County....would close down during the potato harvest in the Fall many years ago.
I don’t know who harvests the potatoes these days, but the Maine wild blue berries were harvested by Maine people when I first moved here more than 25 years ago. Now, it’s mostly Mexicans, Central Americans, and some Haitians.
Maine once owned the potato market all the way down to metropolitan New York, but lost it to Idaho. The growers didn’t listen to housewives many years ago who didn’t like the following....dirt in the bags with the potatoes; non-uniform sizes (the buyers wanted all medium-sized potatoes, not a bag of small, medium and large all mixed together)...and prong-marks on some of the potatoes turned off the buyers.
Is that true? John Baldacci is considering a run for governor? I certainly hope not.
I think we will know for certain in the next couple of months. One person that I know fairly well in Republican
circles but with his political fine tuned to all politics
in Maine thinks he is. The moonbats have at least one candidate running and the more “conservative” Democrats
are genuinely fearful of moonbats. Remember President Trump almost carried Maine and won CD-2 by almost 10 points.

As a resident of CD-2, that’s a fact I like to brag about.
Yep one parks it when one cannot see. We have great plow crews particularly on the interstate.
Just before a storm look at your local parking lots and lie byes. Crews sitting in trucks waiting for storms to start.
