Companies dump undocumented workers after gaining profits
Washington Times ^ | 12/22/17 | Maria Perez

After Abednego de la Cruz sliced his finger to the bone cutting concrete blocks while building a fire station in Tallahassee, his boss fired him and refused continued medical care for his injury.

De la Cruz, a 37-year-old father whose dominant hand remains damaged, thought he could rely on the workers’ compensation system, which requires employers to cover medical care and lost wages for injured employees.

Instead, his employer called the police and had him arrested. The undocumented immigrant now faces almost certain deportation and fears he won’t be able to raise his 1-year-old, U.S.-born daughter.

Some Florida businesses profit from the labor of unauthorized immigrants after accepting phony identification when hiring them, and then the employers or their insurers report them after a work injury for using false documents, a yearlong Naples Daily News investigation found.

As for charging the illegal with a felony, good. But that's only 50% of the solution: the employers who accept obvious fake id should be charged with conspiracy.

Why have a daughter you can’t support?

Hit the road.

“The undocumented immigrant now faces almost certain deportation and fears he won’t be able to raise his 1-year-old, U.S.-born daughter.”

He won’t be able to raise his 1 year old daughter? Why not? Maybe he should think about taking his child with him? Or maybe he should have thought about that before he had a child?

Why must the American taxpayer assume responsibility for his child?

Absolutely. The employer should share a cell with his undocumented former employee. I’d buy tickets to watch that.

Jail time and stiff fines for those who don't thoroughly vet all employees with EVerify. It's the only thing these in-American traitor employers will understand.

Our worse-than-useless "Republican" DC swampthings haven't done this yet. I figure the nation is gone for good when they're all voted out of office. But it's gone anyway if they won't protect our sovereignty.

Remove all illegals with their children, jail their employers, end benefits.

Instead, his employer called the police and had him arrested.

Seems the employer knew he had hired an illegal, and should be arrested as well.

The employer needs to pay for his medical and time off.

Then fined and have his right hand cut off.

This is why I’m against illegal immigration.

Without legal status they have not the same rights under the law and it is amoral.

If you are injured on the job, they should be given the same benefits.

I agree, that something is only going to be really done about illegal immigration when employers start feeling the pain.

Did they leave something out? Is his daughter not permitted to live in Mexico?

If they don't accept the documents they can get sued for "discrimination".

He gave them false ID. Employers are not allowed to discriminate by questioning that ID. Even EVerify can only tell you if that ID is real, not that the guy is who he says he is.

Every employer of illegal aliens ought to be socked with a $100,000 fine for each one discovered on the property. The second time, the fine would be $500,000 each. The third time, the company would be shut down permanently. If the employer can’t pay the penalty, they would be jailed for aiding and abetting an illegal alien. The Jobs for Squatters program that the federal government has subsidized with welfare and free healthcare for decades would dry up fast.

After slogging through this sad mess of an article I can only assume it was jobbed out to an illegal alien.

Bottom line, if you are hurt on the job and go in for medical treatment they will check your SSN and other credentials.

If there is a problem they will notify your employer.

And, unless you can prove that the problem is not you, you will be fired. And there goes your WC claim.
