In One New Jersey Town, Pending Tax Changes Create Anxiety
The New York Times ^ | December 17, 2017 | Patrick McGeehan

LIVINGSTON, N.J. — Politically speaking, Livingston is not the bluest of the suburbs surrounding New York City. But there are few places where people are feeling any more anxious about the potential impact of the federal tax bill proposed by Republican leaders in Washington.

“They’re crippling us,” said Walter Levine, who has lived in this New Jersey community since 1976.

As Mr. Levine sees it, Livingston, a fairly affluent town with a population of about 30,000, could become even less affordable as residents face rising tax bills and falling home values. They could be left with less disposable income to spend in the local stores, setting off a “domino effect” that could derail the town’s economy.

The libs co-opted our color in 2000. We are true blue, they are commie-red.

Now, I know this is crazy, but if New Jersey lowered taxes they would have a more affordable state.

Insane, isn’t it?

Ever notice how politicians only talk about the income side of the state budget, never the spending side. If you people in NJ want lower taxes, you ought to follow the money and see where it’s all going, ‘cuz your state’s expenses can’t be that much different than other states where property and income taxes are lower.

Blue as in liberal, Democrat and RICH. Yeah. The Uber Rich WILL “suffer” in the Blue states, while average middle class workers, even in Blue States, will benefit.

Livingston is the home of liberal megamansions.

But they don’t WANT lower taxes. They need them for all the social welfare programs so near and dear to their hearts. They just don’t want to pay for them, so screw ‘em.

It’s called “taxing the rich” and it’s what you liberal morons have been calling for.

I’ve never used red/blue since, and don’t accept the flip. It is designed to confuse the young.

The Left is expert at hijacking words and phrases. Red Brigades, Red Army, Red October, Red Scare are all associated with Leftist Tyranny. I refuse to accept any connection between red and conservative.

Whatever. Paying the bill should be the peasants’ problems not theirs.

NJ says “Hey, the tax cut means more money for you so now we’ll raise taxes just to keep your tax expenditures the same”

How does a home become less affordable when home values fall?

This is the abject stupidity that you find even in a very wealthy town in New Jersey. Jared Kushner and Chris Christie grew up in Livingston.

The whole Dem and ally MSM storyline is that this is giveaway to the rich. The rich Dems in Livingston don’t think so. I think they feel there must be some way of just taxing the Republican rich.

Hahaha. I don’t live in these tax-insane states run by LIB lunatics. I am tired of subsidizing their lunacy. Suck it up, residents. You continue voting for these LIB morons. Merry Christmas!

New York State (north of New York City and its suburbs) is DEAD on account of decades of liberal governors and state politicians who tax businesses to death. The only way New York State has a hope of rebounding is to slash the spending and offer businesses incentives to come back to the state. Also, the suckers who live in the suburbs and pay a fortune in property taxes for supposedly stellar public schools should start looking at what the elite colleges have been doing to their kids for at least the last decade: actively discriminating against white upper middle class kids when it comes to admissions, while happily taking full tuition from their parents. Colleges have become obsessed with: geographical diversity (meaning, don’t come from white neighborhoods in NYC or its white suburbs in NY, CT, or NJ; racial diversity (meaning don’t be white or Asian); and cultural diversity (meaning don’t have parents who are professionals who went to college and graduate school). Also, lefties have a grudge against predominantly white/Asian public suburban schools because those schools’ students’ success can’t be attributed to stringent admissions that screen out all but the brightest, which is what happens at private high schools. In other words, why are the seniors at Scarsdale High School free from the pathologies that plague seniors of inner-city high schools that aren’t, say, Bronx Science? Gee, I wonder...So, the lefties are pressuring the elite colleges to limit the number of kids they takes from Scarsdale high School.
