Take that, you ingrates. Funny how it never occurred to any of them that the spigot of US largesse has a flow valve that can be closed.

Well, because China will if we won’t? Would it be okay with you if China became an overnight desired guest in all these nations?

Believe me, nations are always looking for a little more cash, and China will be plenty willing.

Having a working relationship with nations is important.

The thing we have to do, is make sure we get something in return.

"Why the F do we give any country “aid”?"

When our nation started such payments were called tribute. And it was paid to reduce trouble with other nations like the Barbary Pirates. Using nuanced diplomatic speech it's now called aid.

We give them in order that we can withhold it later.

AID?

“Aid” comes in several forms but a significant amount of it these days is technical assistance to maintain or upgrade US industrial or military equipment already in place in those countries. Sometimes it may take the form of food aid or medical assistance which the nation doesn’t have or can not afford to acquire. A sizable amount of military and foreign aid flows back to US private contractors and companies. It hardly EVER takes the form of cutting them a check; we learned that is too easily misdirected a long time ago.

You can make a case for staying involved with many of these countries who would likely find willing patrons in other parts of the world who are less friendly to the USA, particularly if the receiving nation happens to have some natural resources that China would want, it happens to be somewhere which might expand their influence in an area or it simply presents a new market for Chinese products..
