Glad it passed, but disappointed for homeschoolers. They already sacrifice to be able to teach their own children. They could use a break.

My family has been home schooling since 2001. We've paid property taxes to support the local public schools for all that time, with zero benefit to ourselves.

I know it wasn't part of this bill, but I would loved to have had a federal tax deduction for all that money we've paid for so long.

Homeschooled for some 15 years. A decent private school curriculum never cost more than a couple hundred a year per kid. But still, I agree that there should be credits for homeschooling families whose kids can either pass standardized tests or have special needs that are according to professionals being addressed. If your kid is doing as well as his peers at public school (or better!), you should get something for that.

Yup. I homeschool and was looking forward to this. I hate democrats. I hate having to pay for public indoctrination centers.

according to the aide, is tied to 529 accounts for homeschooling expenses pushed by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

The Texas senator took a swing at Democrats ahead of the vote to strike his provision, as well as the other pieces that violated the Senate rules.

“What every Democrat is standing up to do right now is saying, ‘we’re going to discriminate against home schoolers. We’re going to cut you out.’ Why? Because the Democratic Party can’t stand the audacity of a parent who would take it upon himself or herself to educate their child free of centralized control,” Cruz said from the Senate floor. The second concerns an exemption included in the tax bill that would allow universities with fewer than 500 tuition-paying students from having to pay the endowment excise tax.
