Mexico Aid to be Cut by 25 Percent After State Dept. Does Not Report on Human Rights Progress
CNS News ^ | 12/19/17 | Mark Browne

The U.S. will withhold $1.25 million in military aid to Mexico after the State Department did not certify that the government is prosecuting human rights violations, according to a U.S. senator.

The lack of a report to Congress triggers a 25 percent reduction in aid to the Mexican armed forces for this fiscal year, under the annual appropriations bill for the State Department and foreign operations, according to Tim Rieser, a spokesperson for Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)

The provision requiring the report applies only to Mexico and is a result of language authored by Leahy, Rieser said in an email.

The important part of this post isn't that we're going to cut aid to Mexico by 25% but WTF are we giving them any in the first place?

Because it beats letting (some) citizens keep their mortgage interest tax deduction.

In addition to the buckets full of cash illegals send to Mexico, and the billions in freebies given to Mexican illegals here, and the United States giving an average of $320 million a year worth of aid to Mexico,
holding back a million or so means nothing.

When I was working I always took advantage of the mortgage interest deduction. But I never thought it was fair to renters. They didn’t get to deduct their monthly rent payments. Mortgage interest deductions were there because of the powerful home builders lobby. And I sold houses for decades and i can’t remember ever seeing someone buy a house because they could deduct the interest even though I tried to use it in my sales pitch.

The people that create these scams indicate that there are a whole lot of people that need to be purged.

Renters sill be taking a $12,600 personal deduction this year.

Couples will get $25,200.

I think you can relax.

Be creative.

Cut it by 225%.

We could help pay the cost of the illegals if we got creative.

Well, about five minutes worth of costs that is.

Mérida Initiative
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mérida Initiative (also called Plan Mexico by critics, in reference to Plan Colombia) is a security cooperation agreement among the United States, the government of Mexico, and the countries of Central America, with the declared aim of combating the threats of drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, and money laundering. The assistance includes training, equipment, and intelligence.

U.S. State Department officials were aware that former Mexican President Felipe Calderón’s willingness to work with the United States was unprecedented on issues of security, crime, and drugs.[4] The initiative was announced on 22 October 2007 and signed into law on June 30, 2008. From FY2008 to FY2015, Congress appropriated nearly $2.5 billion for Mexico under the Mérida Initiative, including 22 aircraft.[5]

Winning! ...25% worth.

Losing ...75% worth.

But I see your point. Obama would’ve just let it slide and sent Mexico the money...as would’ve Hillary.

Very good point about renters never getting a deduction. And so true, no one buys a house just to take the interest deduction, what a joke.

This is their first installment on paying for that wall.

Yes, and the next 3 installments will use up the other 75% of "their" aid for this fiscal year.

Then we keep using 100% of it for the wall every year until the wall is paid for.

De Nada, Mexico !

.
