It depends on what you want.
Canaan Valley - major retirement center with lots of outdoor activities, Snowshoe (skiing) is close & Snowshoe is another good place.
Morgantown home of WVU - Either the Kiplinger Letter or Money Magazine had it in the list of top 20 small towns in America. Has everything a college town is expected to have, great restaurants, lot of cultural activists, concerts, international touring groups - e.g., last year the Bolshoi Ballet and WVU FOOTBALL , so 7 TIMES A YEAR ITS A MAD HOUSE - but in a good way! And in a 10 - 20 minute drive you are in the woods so like all of WV a lot of outdoor activities. Only bad thing about Morgantown is it’s stretched out along the river bank and goes up hill so traffic is an annoying but minor problem. Also 70 miles from Pittsburgh if you need a big city fix!
Charlestown - race track, Vegas style resorts, etc.
Charleston - nice family town - state capitol
Anywhere in WV is close to outdoor activities if that’s what you like!
As you can see my preference is Morgantown even though I am from the Charleston area.
Thanks for the tips. I will do some homework.
