Doug Jones: Trump Shouldn't Resign Over Sexual Assault Allegations At This Point

Alabama Democratic senate-elect Doug Jones sat down on CNN's "State of the Union" with Jake Tapper on Sunday to discuss the presidency and his upcoming term in the Senate. When asked about President Donald J. Trump’s sexual assault accusers and whether not the commander-in-chief should resign, Jones strayed away from typical Democrat talking points.

“Where I am on that right now is that those allegations were made before the election. And so people had an opportunity to judge before that election. I think we need to move on and not get distracted by those issues.

“Let’s get on with the real issues that are facing people of this country right now, and I don’t think the president ought to resign at this point. We’ll see how things go but certainly those allegations are not new and he was elected with those allegations at front center.”

Last week, several prominent Democratic senators, such as Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Sen. Jeff Merkley of Oregon, called for the President to step down due to sexual assault claims from various women spanning decades. This request comes after several Republicans and Democratic elected officials have left office due to sexual allegations of their own.

Doug Jones is the first Alabama Democratic senator elected in 25 years. He will have to stay close to the center on a variety of issues if he hopes to be re-elected in 2020. To that end, Jones encouraged his colleagues to “move on and try to work with some real issues" instead of focusing on alleged sexual misconduct allegations against Trump.

“Again, I go back to the fact that those allegations were made and he was elected president of the United States and I think the American people have spoken on that at this time.

“There’s other things out there but I think at this point we need to move on and try to work with some real issues that are facing the country and not worry about getting at odds with the president any more than we have to.”

Doug Jones defeated embattled GOP Sen. candidate and accused sexual predator Roy Moore on December 12th in a special election to replace Attorney General Jeff Sessions former Senate seat.

Does this mean Jones is trying to protect his stolen and false victory?

When Chuckie says, “Jump!”, Jones will say, “How High?”

Perhaps Jones will love the mantle of power so much that he will jump to the GOP as Richard Shelby did.

Jones does have close ties to Alabama GOP kingmaker Bob Riley.

I think it means he has some skeletons of his own he'd rather we not dwell on. However, it could also mean he was such an unexpected winner that he hasn't been given the Democrat playbook yet on accusing Republicans of every misdeed, true or not, in hopes that some of it sticks.

“At this point. At this time.” You see how reasonable I’m being? Now, at some point and time, it will be appropriate for Trump to resign. We have gone past the point and now Trump must do something so the country can begin its healing process. Once that process is complete, it will be all rainbows and Skittles for everybody. It is time now to move beyond all this divisiveness and get down to the business of democratically electing Democrats. Of course, free medical care for all. Free college for all. A living wage for everybody. All that it takes is for Trump to resign and now is the time. (Oh.../s. Almost forgot.)

Like Joe Mancin in WV, he’s mindful of the electorate he represents. The Dems will give him a pass until it’s time to vote on it.

Yes, for years we’ve been told how Republican the old Democrat Joe Manchin from WV is. How many times has he voted against Chuck Schumer on anything that mattered? These Fake Moderate Democrats aren’t worth a bucket of warm spit.

Quid pro quo. Trump said Moore should concede so Jones repays the favor by saying “allegations” are old news and to move on.

Regardless, Doug Jones should never be seated until a compete investigation into voter fraud is completed.

Schumer has not had his heart to heart talk with Doug yet. His tune will change once he gets to Washington.

The word has gone out - downplay the sexual harrassment resignation angle; Rats have more to lose.

“Trump Shouldn’t Resign Over Sexual Assault Allegations At This Point”

Ellipsis definition, the omission from a sentence or other construction of one or more words that would complete or clarify the construction.

So, the completion of his sentence would read “...but at some point he must.”
