GIVING
There is a story of two young men who were working their way through Stanford University. The day came when they were broke, and something had to be done. One of them had an idea. They would engage the great Paderewski for a piano recital and put their profits toward their board and tuition. All they had to do was guarantee two thousand dollars.
The recital was held but only sixteen hundred dollars was raised. Following the performance, the two young men went to Paderewski, offered him the $1600 and added a promissory note for $400 which indicated they would earn the balance as quickly as possible and send it to him. "No," replied Paderewski, "that isn't necessary." In addition to tearing up the note, he also gave them back all but 10% of the sixteen hundred dollars. The years went by, and Paderewski became Premier of Poland. The devastation of World War I descended upon Europe, and he was faced with the prospect of starvation for thousands of people. Only one man could help him, the United States Food Administrator at the time. Soon thousands of tons of food began to arrive in Poland for distribution among the people. Following the gift of life-giving food, Paderewski went to Paris to thank the U.S. Food Administrator for the relief he had sent. The administrator told Paderewski, "That's not necessary, Mr. Paderewski. You don't remember, but you once helped me when I was a student without income or money for food. I never forgot it." The gifts we give come back to us in many different ways.

Gentleness
December 17, 2017
Be completely humble and gentle.
Ephesians 4:2
The troubles of life can make us cranky and out of sorts, but we should never excuse these bouts of bad behavior, for they can wither the hearts of those we love and spread misery all around us. We have not fulfilled our duty to others until we have learned to be pleasant.
The New Testament has a word for the virtue that corrects our unpleasantnessgentleness, a term that suggests a kind and gracious soul. Ephesians 4:2 reminds us, Be completely humble and gentle.
Gentleness is a willingness to accept limitations and ailments without taking out our aggravation on others. It shows gratitude for the smallest service rendered and tolerance for those who do not serve us well. It puts up with bothersome peopleespecially noisy, boisterous little people; for kindness to children is a crowning mark of a good and gentle person. It speaks softly in the face of provocation. It can be silent; for calm, unruffled silence is often the most eloquent response to unkind words.
Jesus is gentle and humble in heart (Matt. 11:29). If we ask Him, He will, in time, recreate us in His image. Scottish author George MacDonald says, [God] would not hear from [us] a tone to jar the heart of another, a word to make it ache . . . . From such, as from all other sins, Jesus was born to deliver us.
Dear Lord, I want to be a gentle person. Please help me to be kind and gracious to others today.
Humility toward God will make us gentle toward others.
The apostle Paul had a lot to say about gentleness. Paul was the founding pastor of the church at Corinth and taught there for eighteen months (Acts 18:111). Yet, soon after he left the city, the believers rejected him as a true apostle. Paul had every reason and every right to come down hard on these believers, but he didnt. Instead, he appealed to them by the humility and gentleness of Christ (2 Cor. 10:1). In his letter to another church, Paul urged two feuding sisters to reconcile. Paul asked that their gentleness be evident to all (Phil. 4:5). In dealing with people who are not sympathetic to the Christian faith and are antagonistic towards us, Peter urged us to be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks [us] to give the reason for the hope that [we] have. But we are to do so with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15).
The Scriptures show us how we should relate to everyonewe are to be kind, gracious, respectful, and gentle.
Why is it so important to demonstrate gentleness in our interaction with others if we claim to be a follower of Christ?

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.
G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Penny really hates the cold. As she is walking she limps, as though she doesn’t want her feet to touch the ground. I wash her paws with warm water when we come in to get rid of the road salt.
I keep the walks mercifully short, with her warm coat, but she just wants to take care of business and go back indoors ASAP.
Of course, I can’t get her to wear booties.
Balto she isn’t.
