here are 27 facilities in Connecticut that use such large quantities of hazardous chemicals that they are required to submit disaster response plans to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
About 170,000 peopleroughly 5 percent of the states populationlive within a mile of these facilities, risking exposure to a leak, explosion or adverse health effects. Low-income people and children of color under the age of 12 are more likely than their white counterparts to live in these fenceline communities, according to a report by the Center for Effective Government.
In its report Living in the Shadow of Danger: Poverty, Race and Unequal Chemical Facility Hazards, the center examined more than 12,500 facilities in 50 states, grading states based on the disparities faced by people living adjacent to or near these facilities. The center reported that children of color under age 12 living in the state were 2.2 times more likely than white children to live within a mile of one of these facilities. Well, certainly no bias when they decided to write that report.
I’m sure the people of Baytown, Texas - Pasadena, Deer Park, Port Aurthur, etc. would be really impressed.
Less expensive housing is where poor people live.

I think his point is well taken, but how many disasters have they had in Connecticut in the 25 years he is talking about?
And if you move the facilities to less populated areas, are you taking away poor people’s jobs?
These people do understand that railcars move, right?
They should shut down all those evil companies immediately and make them move those horrid manufacturing jobs to The South........................
Democrats please breathe deeply....
Yes, move the jobs to where people appreciate them, like The South....................
I can’t think of anybody who wants to be near a hazardous facility (especially if it blows up), but the fact is these people are probably much more likely to meet their end at the hands of one of their neighbors.
“The Center for Effective Government (formerly OMB Watch) ceased operations as of March 2016. The majority of work and materials has been passed on to the Project On Government Oversight (POGO). This site is being maintained as an archive of materials produced.”
So just wondering the real source of this report?
Trust me, they're already gone, except for the companies Malloy is bribing with money he's either borrowing or confiscating.
Will the local meth chemists also be required to submit disaster recovery plans?
Then you could have even more people with no jobs on welfare. And they’d probably vote Democrat.
Isn’t that what they intend?.................
CT EPA announces next new refinery or chemical plant in CT to be built in Old Greenwich, Darien, Westport, Riverside, Greenwich, Stamford, or Cos Cob.
