Mo Brooks’s problem in the primary was lack of name recognition and money. In the shortened time frame of a special election, he couldn’t overcome that. He would have been a very solid choice.
My experience was that turnout in my suburban district was about normal but certainly less than last year. However, I can tell you that in my crowd of suburban, mostly evangelical moms, I only know of one other friend who voted Tuesday. We should’ve been a slam dunk for Moore, but none of us wanted Moore even before the allegations. He was a hugely flawed candidate who parlayed a hard core base of supporters into a primary win then coalesced anti-McConnell opinion into a runoff win. Beyond that, he won over no one. There’s a reason the man never won a statewide non-judicial election.
Why isn't someone doing something about all of this?
“He was a hugely flawed candidate”
this is a popular jingoism, can you explain why he was flawed? Let me guess:
1. he overtly opposed the establishment
2. he opposed the sodomites
3. he was a marine who loves god and country
4. he might impose a theocracy
5. overt Christians have no place in U.S. government, they are just too intolerant
6. he might be a pedophile. He’s just not for women. (Shame on your friends for believing this nonsense).
7. he wanted to lynch blacks.
Thirty + years ago the USSR was famous at spreading such propaganda, but most people were then smart enough to see through it. Now, welcome to the new USSA.
Thanks for replying with your observations. God help us all!
You are missing McCain and Flake.
Another anti Bannon tome. Screw this. Bannon is a patriot.
>>>He was a hugely flawed candidate. This is a popular jingoism, can you explain why he was flawed?
He just turns a lot of people off and that has been the case for years. Even in 2012 when Mitt Romney won my precinct with 70% of the vote, Roy only drew 47% of the vote. He barely won his Chief Justice seat that year with about 52% statewide.
I’m trying to follow your logic? He’s such a flawed candidate because he performed poorly in a previous election, and the better alternative is at least three years of an obamanite who will block Trump’s agenda? Turns people off? What do you mean? Could this be due to the caricature that was built by propaganda from the left? ...or is it little tolerance for Christian values like those possessed by Moore?
‘Arrest Obama Now’
We would not only have to read the text of the Obama robocall, but also have it alalized by the FBI acoustics crime lab to make sure there were backward masking subliminal threats in the audio.
>>>Turns people off? What do you mean? Could this be due to the caricature that was built by propaganda from the left? ...
Well, he spent the last month preaching to the choir. Pretty much ever event he appeared at took place in a church where he portrayed himself as the only person able to save this country. Sometimes you have to reach beyond your base when you move from the primary to the general election.
Where can an old man sign up? I wish to be called Colonel.
It would have been best but at the time the revelations about Moore and the underage teenagers was not used, if not for that Moore would have won very easily in my view. Whether it was true or not it was enough to sink Moore.
I understand that McCain is back in the hospital. Read that they found another cancer in his brain. They tried to make it sound like it was a precautionary entry into the hospital. You can read whatever you want into it.
As far as the Flake is concerned, he has said he will not run again. I doubt he could be elected again if he did run. He will take his campaign coffers and ride into the sunset, unless Soros of one of his thinks he can cause more trouble.
Democrats should be red, not Republicans. How did that happen?
The red /blue colors flipped during the 2000 elections.
None of the above. The people who think that Alabamians somehow got snookered on this suffer from the same thinking of liberals who think we’re all inbred and brainless. Roy Moore has been a political figure in this state for 20 years — more than enough time for people to assess his performance. And that performance was lacking. As a judge, Moore was heavily supported by and very friendly with the same trial lawyers who made this state tort hell and who bankroll the very causes Moore claims to oppose. As chief justice where a substantial part of the job is running the state court system, Moore managed it quite badly. His take on the issues in many respects was not that different from the majority of Alabamians. We just didn’t trust him to do anything but harm those issues with his bellicosity and ill advised moves.
Fact of the matter is that there is no important issue that has been advanced thanks to Roy Moore’s involvement. Because when he gets involved in something he does it in such a ham fisted way as to damage the issue’s credibility. It becomes a caricature (yes the media plays a role in that but he doesn’t help). And the only one who ends up coming out ahead is somehow...Roy Moore.
People had largely made up their minds about him before the allegations dropped. I believe the exit polls bore that out. It may have flipped some fence sitters and galvanized the opposition, but it was not the main reason. Everyone I knew was dubious about the allegations and didn’t believe the “nonsense” as you put it. What we believed were our own eyes.
