There are usually about 20-25 kids in each K class. It is extremely
Difficult these days to find a class without someone OBVIOUSLY on the autism spectrum. (Not counting some of the kids who are highly functioning and their differences might not show for a couple more years) This should bother us.

You’re lucky in a way.

I am the same re MSG, so I don’t inhale it daily like anyone eating the standard American diet. It is also a neurotoxin, and by completely avoiding it, I hope I’m helping my brain.

Andy Wakefield is an amazing guy and though he was caught fudging figured, he is an expert in the field of autism research, has done amazing things for kids, and his science itself is right on. I agree that he deserves to have his damaged reputation, no excuse. But he was correct and still is and has been vindicated by others and by actual science.

If your “science is right on”, you don’t fudge figures.

smh

In March of 2012, Professor John Walker-Smith’s fight to regain his medical license was successful, when he was found non-guilty of any wrongdoing or fraud. John Walker-Smith received financial support from his medical liability insurance to fight the courts, but Wakefield was unable to do so. Smith was co-author with Wakefield on the original study.

Who is John Walker-Smith? He is one of the founding fathers of pediatric gastroenterology in the world.

How many black boys were misdiagnosed as autistic? I suspect far too many.

The primary reason for increasing rates of autism is really not that complicated. Over the last 20 or 30 years the definition of autism has been expanded continually to include more and more. I don’t think that more kids have the problem I think that what used to be things that would fall under your run-of-the-mill behavior problems are now classified as autism. Other genuine issues have also been re-categorized as autism.

With your thimerosal allergy imagine what would happen to you if you inject it.

You know I've thought of that. I am lysdexic so it is possible it happened to me I suppose. I must say that like all children my age, I endured Merthiolate and Mercurochrome on numerous cuts and scrapes. I don't remember any adverse reactions at all, other than the alcohol burn. My allergy may have developed when I became an adult.

That is not what this school teacher thinks.

“Yes! I have been a public school Health and Physical Education teacher since 1995. I’ve been teaching middle school for 18 years.

“Gym” teachers typically see all the students in a building. My role book 20 years ago had 1 or 2 names on the roster highlighted to alert me if a student had a condition (allergies, asthma. ADHD). That’s only 1 or 2 kids per class on a medication. Today 80% of all my students have a health condition of some kind and are taking or have taken some kind of medication.

My first student with facial tics was in 1999. Now I have about two dozen. (Yesterday I watched one student have literally hundreds of facial tics during my 37 minute class). There are many students that I can tell should be on the autism spectrum - I am a parent of 2 children with ASD myself) but their parents won’t get them evaluated and the school certainly won’t pay for it.

Even the “neurotypical” kids are not okay. They have anxiety attacks, they can’t sit still or stand and listen to directions, They have stomach pains, migraine headaches, seizures, unintegrated reflexes (their brains are not fully connected to their feet or hands) I see toe walking still at age of 12 or 13. (and don’t even try to tell me it’s just puberty. WRONG. I’ve witnessed what healthy kids going through puberty looks like, these kids are not well) None of these things were prevalent 20 years ago. What is so frustrating is that it happened just slowly enough that no one is calling it out (except me, and my colleagues don’t have much to say to me other than the daily pleasantries. If I bring it up, then look at me uncomfortably and say something like, “I don’t know.”

Well I DO know and I’m not okay with it. I seriously need to leave my profession and find something more worthwhile.”

I have a friend whose son is highly functioning. Although thru his younger years, it was obvious he was on the spectrum. She never discussed the disorder with her other kids. He was treated with no exception. But, she did help him with non stop with school work and to encourage him in activities he was interested in. This boy has concentrated all his efforts in his studies and is in law school now. I could t be more proud of his perseverance. I have another friend whose son is severely autistic. She is very active in autism awareness and is active in the anti vax movement.

I’m starting to feel it’s better to hold off on vaccinations till after a year old as you discussed here. Also staggering them. Also they should split up the MMR into 3 separate vaccines.

Disgusting.

*We care about the children. It’s all about the children.*

Total unadulterated BS.

Wow. That’s very concerning. What do you think may be contributing to the issues you’ve described?

“Over the last 20 or 30 years the definition of autism has been expanded continually to include more and more. “

Exactly. And not only for autism, there is an exploding epidemic of nearly everything to explain away the disastrous consequences of leftist education, like dyslexia, discalculation, disphonemia (solely due to the whole language method), attention deficit & hyperactivity disorder (because spanking is BAD), etc etc.
Oh, they are not caused by vaccine, let’s find another boggeyman, why not pesticides, processed food, preservatives, and the mother of all causes, global warming.

Interesting anecdote, but to be clear, Tics are not a symptom of Autism Spectrum Disorder. I don't know why they are being talked about here.

Interesting. Oddly, people who live in 3rd world countries and die of preventable infectious diseases like flies don’t believe or understand the value of vaccines either. Maybe their way is better and we should let these diseases that have killed 100s of millions run their course. Same goes for all other species of animals that get vaccinated. How many animal species have autism, which of course has a genetic basis. Autism runs in families, how odd is that?

As a nurse, and a person with critical thinking skills, I have looked askance at ANYTHING the CDC puts out. They are completely political. Years ago, I voiced my concern to one of the hospital epidemiologists, about the possibility of a certain patient with full-blown AIDS, contaminating the floor’s only shower, especially since he had open sores. The doctor, (who HAD to have known better), didn’t see any harm in him using the same shower as the other patients, sitting naked on the only shower bench, etc. He simply parroted the CDC position that AIDS was not easily transmitted, and routine cleaning procedures would take care of it. You can’t always trust every person to properly clean an area. Hospitals are notorious for spreading disease through contaminated surfaces and supplies, even after supposedly having been cleaned, or even sterilized. (Ours was a medical floor, which are never money makers, since almost all patients are either elderly on Medicare, or Medicaid patients. We were the last unit to be remodeled with private showers in each room.)

Oh, I have some bones to pick with vaccines, no question about that.

But my statements about ridiculously expanded definitions of autism still stand and are valid.
