In a remarkable moment of complete honesty, President Trump tweeted that last night's election in Alabama proves that Republicans "need to put up GREAT Republican candidates to increase the razor thin margins in both the House and Senate."
In other words: not candidates like Judge Roy Moore.
[TWEET TRUMP]
Obviously, Moore wasn't as strong a candidate as the nationalist-populist wing of the Republican Party had hoped. It should never even have been close. We're talking about Alabama, after all, one of the reddest states in America.
So, Trump certainly has a point. What's remarkable, though, is that he's criticizing Moore (and therefore Steve Bannon) so publicly. It's very rare for him to do so -- he usually tries to keep his relationship with the Breitbart boss as good as possible. Apparently, Trump has concluded that Bannon too can make mistakes... and that supporting Moore was one of them.
Exactly right ! McConnell and Bannon take note ...
And by great, he means ultra-RINOs. No conservative will ever be considered a great candidate. But Bob Menendez, he’s awesome.
He was a fine candidate with name recognition. What hurt him was the lynching by newspaper.
PRESIDENT TRUMP expects excellence. One has to work hard to achieve it.
In other words forget putting up candidates you want to represent you, just let us pick who we think will play the game and tow the GOPe line.
Moore got Borked.
Moore was a horrible candidate and his campaign was the worst I’ve ever seen ... I think that Drudge and Coulter are right ... Moore’s loss served as a wake up call to our side and also spared the Repubs the problem of having a 10 ton anchor wrapped around their neck going into the midterms ...No more Moore’s
You need to lay of the RINOs.
no..Moore lost statewide elections twice in AL before his senate bid.
lets get real he was cruising to a win until the allegations came out.
Your Trump hate is obvious. Which Republican would you have rather had in the White House, if that person even had a chance to be elected last November?
In the next tweet, if you thought he misspelled media, consider this:

Mark Levine had the best analysis of how this turned out. In the Republican Primary, McConnell wanted Luther Strange but saw Mo Brooks (Cruz prototype) as the one most likely to defeat Strange in a runoff. So the Republican Elite ran millions in ads against Brooks, so Strange would face Moore in the runoff.
Unfortunately for McConnell, Moore beat Strange in the runoff, and the 'BEST CANDIDATE' (Brooks) was now out of the race. So McConnell is responsible for the new RAT in the Senate.
A Republican would be nice.
Displeased with the ongoing, gratuitous Bannon attacks.
The Republican Party is absolutely worthless now.
Heard that as well. But I’m guessing McConnell went further to facilitate a Democrat victory.
McConnell is far more than the hapless idiot decimating our chance for survival.
Yes. That doesn’t mean I want a Democrat.
