Loss of Water During California Drought Caused Sierra Nevada to Rise: Study
NBC Bay Area ^ | 12/13

Posted on 12/13/2017 10:35:18 AM PST by nickcarraway

A new NASA study says loss of water from rocks during California's historic drought caused the Sierra Nevada to rise nearly an inch in height from October 2011 to October 2015.

The study also found that in the following two years of increased snow and rain, the rocks in the range regained about half as much water as was lost during the drought and the height of the mountains has fallen about half an inch.

Research leader Donald Argus of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory is discussing the study Wednesday at an American Geophysical Union conference in New Orleans.

The study suggests significantly more water was lost from cracks and soil within fractured mountain rock during drought and gained during heavy precipitation than hydrology models show.

Bull. The mountains expanded because of global warming.

Well, I guess we don’t have to worry about areas close to the coast flooding.

Global warming makes land rise. Such great news...

This is idiotic. The mountains are on tectonic plates, that float on a molten inner earth. So do the mean relative to the other floating plates or surrounding areas of the same plate? Or do they mean the ocean level that constantly rises and falls? And the ocean that is literally never stable being driven by wind, currents, and even the pull of the moon each day.

And they notices an inch of difference?

I call BS. Their level of precision exceeds your ability to measure. Pure BS.

Who are the people that determined this? Who is paying them? Don’t they have something better to do, like clean the restrooms?

California reminds me of that little, old, aunt in your extended family who is constantly...constantly, complaining about SOMETHING.

They’re like entitled brats, wanting to lead the way, wanting to set the trends, but not having the money, or where-with-all to do it.

I guess “dreamers” would be the right word...dreamers with mental problems.

Yup. And judging from the responses to this thread, science education today isn't what it used to be.

If the mountains rise, does it not mean that somewhere land must sink to balance the rise? We are talking about the entire earth’s crust, aren’t we?

They are relatively new mountains that are not finished growing. They’d do it regardless of the water table, due to crustal movement.

...science education today isn't what it used to be.

Most education appears to have become indoctrination, even the sciences.
