FDA moves to end snortable chocolate, calling it 'street drug alternative'

The Food and Drug Administration is warning a pair of Florida companies to stop distributing a snortable chocolate powder, claiming it's being sold as an unapproved new drug and as a “street drug alternative.”

The regulatory action against Coco Loko comes six months after the product's debut, and after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called it “cocaine on training wheels.”

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in a statement that “[a]s a physician and a parent, I’m deeply troubled by the unlawful marketing of these potentially dangerous products, especially since they are so easily accessible by minors.”

Even more dangerous is when they combine this with other “street drug alternatives”. Some kids will snort chocolate, smoke banana peels, and huff whippets all at the same time. That’s a “banana split”, if you are hip to the lingo.

Chunks Schumer never saw a fad he didn’t want to legislate against.

“When subject emerged from his vehicle, a strong odor of chocolate was detected as emanating from his breath. He failed a field test for presence of Hersey’s, and later tested positive for theobromine, phenethylamine and caffeine.”

Proof that drug warriors have mental health problems.

The mistake thes companies have made was making it chocolate to target kids so now it "has to" be banned "for the children".

In Europe theyve had a similar product in use for 40+ years. The difference is that theirs is a menthol powdered grape fructose snakeoil billed as an otc for sinus problems.

Those consumers dont have sinus problems and dont pretend to any more than American kids. Like many Americans, some Europeans have the misconception that sugar in the bloodsteam makes one hyperactive. Its just a monetized physical excuse for behaving stupid.

This is what gives drug warriors a fig leaf of justification, allowing kids to think they can snort "energy" will supposedly lead to cocaine when chocolate isnt enough.

The FDA has always been near the top of the list of fed agencies acting well beyond its remit.

Who gives a toss about this doctor’s psychological torment?

No, also prohibited - it has been verified statistically that it only leads to "harder" stuff - like enemas with warm cocoa and mini-marshmallows!

Good grief. I just finished a cup of hot chocolate. I wonder what I'd test out as having in my blood.

“So glad these fools have time for junk like this. How about fast tracking life saving drugs that are already pproved in the rest of the world? What a moribund bureaucracy.”

Amen, and how about making a lot of Rx drugs over the counter like Bactrim/Septra, Cialis as examples.

Making the antihistamines and nasal steroids over the counter saves a ton of money re doctor visits.
