Investigators say the utility company had equipment near where one of the fires started and are not ruling it out as a cause. The Thomas Fire near Santa Barbara is in its second week and still only 25 percent contained. Cal Fire and other agencies are not yet giving details into the probe.
A Socal Edison spokesperson would not say which fires they are under scrutiny for but said its more than one. Investigators will go over 911 calls and backtrack to where the fires started, not an easy task a consultant said.

Huunh? Just a day or two ago they said a campfire in a homeless hobo jungle started it.
Different fire.
As said above, different fire. Pretty standard lawsuit prep to claim that wind-whipped power lines started the fire(s) not already blamed on the homeless.
Maybe SoCal Edison should just quit supplying electricity to High Fire Danger areas.
if wind whipped power lines are STILL the cause after all these years why hasn’t the state or the power company(s) come up with solutions?
Homeless hobos don't have any money. Edison has deep pockets.
I think you nailed it.
#6 it would take money out of the pension fund.
They cannot raise rates high enough to cover basic maintenance and the pensions. so....
Blaming Edison is an example of political cost shifting. Government has a monopoly on what is legal or not. So it criminalizes Edison whether their power lines had anything to do with the fires or not. Edison doesn’t care because its revenues are controlled by the CPUC - Utility Commission. So it just passes through the cost of the public expenditures to fight the fires to electric rate payers instead of the politically risky choice of deciding to raise taxes (or raise taxes on the wealthy who live in bucolic Santa Ana Wind fire zones. An alternative might be that those who live in these zones must switch to home generators to power their homes when a Santa Ana Wind/Fire hazard is declared. But once again politicians want to socialize losses and privatize gains.
Somebody has to “pay” always it seems like.
And this is California. They have their own way of serving justice.
