The GOP should be dismantled as a political party ASAP. If Luther Strange was the guy to run in this election, they should have just left him there as originally planned and never held the special election at all. I don't know who was more inept here ... Gov. Kay Ivey, for overturning the original decision to have Strange serve out the remainder of Sessions' term, or Roy Moore, for running such an awful campaign.

Why did they hold a special election if they didn’t have to? I know a lot of FReepers didn’t like Luther Strange, but I don’t know much about the guy.

It was the AL state auditor, Jim Zeigler, who raised Caine over AL state AG Luther Strange delaying an investigation of Gov. Robert "Love Guv" Bentley, who was eventually forced to resign from office earlier this year. New Gov. Kay Ivey took her cue from Zeigler.
