Venezuela is rapidly collapsing under its dictators extreme folly and malevolence. Changing market conditions will accelerate the demise. What next?
Some further research confirms that sanctions are unnecessary.
Shortages to the Point of Famine
The situation is so desperate in the capital that the zoo animals that are not starving to death are being routinely rustled and slaughtered for food. Venezuelan journalist Sabrina Martín reports in the Panama Post that dogs, cats, and pigeons are being hunted in Caracas (and we assume most everywhere else).
Through Twitter, Muchacho (Mayor of Chacao in Caracas) reported
there are people hunting cats and dogs in the streets, and pigeons in the plazas, to eat. This is not a joke. It is a very painful reality.
The situation created by the corrupt incompetents has already visited horrors on the Venezuelan people and there is little we can do to help. Donations of food and medicine are being seized by the regime and food distribution is now under military control. International mail has been suspended because the regime will not pay foreign airlines that carry it.
The Chavez/Maduro subjugation of Venezuela is a clear example of a Soviet-style class-warfare program aimed at reducing the population to a poverty-stricken dependent remainder that will be easy to control. Any resistance will be met by creating a population of gulag-resident absolute slaves -- to take care of all the dirty jobs."
To sum it all up, there is little we could do to make things worse and no need. Maduros malevolence is driving the populace to abject servitude and the economy to ruin.
Catastrophic Oil Production Decline

This is what Tolkien was symbolizing in Lord of the Rings, in regards to men and elves vs orcs.
Those men and elves, who were unfortunate to fall under Sauron’s sway were eventually transformed into orcs.
This is what that sniveling little socialist bastard Bernie Sanders wants to bring here.
Item not covered in MSM, and certainly no conservative press:
Venezuela (read Russia, China and Goldman Sachs) is on track to complete an oil refinery by June upcoming.
The critical reality of this is that it is designed to handle Orinoco heavy. Presently a substantial portion of Ven’s oil has to ship to the US Gulf Coast for US refineries to extract the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Those refineries bring in the crude, which they pay for, and then ship back to Ven and other South American countries the resultant gasoline and middle distillates.
That will all stop in June. It’s a process that sucks money out of Venezuela and it stops in June.
There is an ongoing drumbeat about the end of the Maduro government and how they are defaulting and the people are starving etc. But if you look in the Ven population history you’ll see those starving people are making new people.
Another hidden item is Venezuela does not borrow much money. They simply don’t. Their debt to GDP ratio is tiny, and shrinking (!!) despite the shrinkage of GDP. (Contrast that with US debt/GDP). Note that banks that want to earn interest for their executive bonuses have to lend money. If they don’t lend money, they don’t earn interest, and there is a country down there with the ULTIMATE collateral (oil) who refuses to borrow much money.
And what little they do borrow, they borrow from Rosneft (Russia’s oil company). So don’t presume the demonization of Venezuela is all about conservatism and hatred of socialism. More to the point, the demonization is coming from Wall Street banks (who, btw, are in a blue state).
Pray for Venezuela. Famine is nothing to joke about.
Time to see which charities are operating there and which ones of those are involved in bringing in foodstuffs to the country.
After the dogs and cats are gone - it will be the rats - like in India. Although in India the professional rat catchers (hired by the farmers) get a 25 cent bounty for each rat, and get to keep any grains (rice) in the rat’s burrow. A good rat catcher with the right equipment can catch enough rats (and rice) to feed his family - AND to cook up and serve in a food stand to make cash.
Seriously.
Coming to Venezuela.
Crude output is in freefall. Production has fallen by nearly 300,000 barrels a dayaround 15%this year alone, and is down 0.8m b/d, (around a third), since Maduro took office in April 2013, according to figures the country reports to Opec. PdV's cash flow problems have paralysed the company's complex operations. There is little money to drill new Orinoco heavy oil projects and build the infrastructure needed to bring the huge reserves to market, while at the same time neglected mature fields are quickly declining.
More worrying is the recent collapse in exports. Between September and October they fell by 340,000 b/d, down to 1.32m b/d, according to the Oil Research team at Thomson Reuters. Shipments for this month look even more dire, running at just 0.77m b/d up to 22 November, according to the Reuters data. November's exports to the US, PdV's most important cash paying market, were just 280,000 b/d, a disaster in the making for the state oil company. Venezuelan crude exports to the US averaged around 0.75m b/d throughout the first half of this year, but sanctions are scaring off US banks and crude buyers, which has seen Gulf Coast refiners turn instead to Brazil, Iraq, Canada, Mexico and Colombia for heavy oil.
A liberal progressive paradise
The U.S. should offer the people of Venezuela a type of protectorate status. The U.S. would contract with a U.S. company to run the country, provide protection, provide food assistance, and get the country back on its feet. After that, the U.S. would continue to contract out the government for Venezuela, but the country would continue as a free and separate nation.
Venezualans must do what is necessary.
What Romanians did on 25 December 1989.
Merry Christmas!
Some of my nieces and nephews (late 20’s, early 30’s) think Bernie’s God. I’ve tried talking to them but they just don’t get it. I’ve since stopped talking to them.
Not a good time to bring a pet with you on vacation to Venezuela.
Lost 100 pounds 3 years ago and have been stuck at a still Very bad weight since, but have not gained back at least.
Some night i would go to bed laughing insanely at how hungry I was.
But I could eat any time.
These people can’t. What a horror.
When will utopia appear?
——The U.S. should offer the people of Venezuela a type of protectorate status. ——
You post as if the people of Venezuela have the ability to take the US up on that offer...
Feel the Bern.
No freaking way! Your idea would perpetuate the socialist monster. Let it all collapse into chaos. When Maduro and his thugs are defenestated, we can help a new government get organized. As to the Russians, good luck processing Venezuela crude. We have the technology they do not.
Anyone who votes for communism deserve to suffer greatly. I want all communist everywhere to suffer because communism is evil.
FYI: The democratic party in the USA is now communist. See the first sentence.
