Egypt's Coptic Church head Pope Tawadros II and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas will both shun Mike Pence when he visits the Middle East later this month in response to the White House acknowledging Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Pope Tawadros has cancelled a scheduled meeting with Pence in Cairo.
He said President Trump's decision 'did not take into account the feelings of millions of Arab people'.
'The Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church declines to receive American Vice President Mike Pence,' the church said in a statement, adding it would pray for 'wisdom and to address all issues that impact peace for the people of the Middle East.'
An Abbas aide said this week that he will also shun the US Vice President.
'There will be no meeting with the vice president of America in Palestine,' Abbas's diplomatic adviser Majdi al-Khaldi told AFP.
'The United States has crossed all the red lines with the Jerusalem decision,' he added.
The decision comes a day after Egypt's top Muslim cleric Ahmed al-Tayeb, the head of Al-Azhar, also declined to meet Pence.
He described it as an 'unjust and unfair American decision on Jerusalem'.
Egyptian Coptic Christians make up about 10 per cent of the country's 93 million people, and are the largest religious minority in the region.

Considering the way the Copts are being persecuted by Egypt’s Moslem majority, I have a hard time understanding why their pope is rejecting Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Does the Coptic pope believe that siding with the Moslems on this issue will appease their blood lust?
Or perhaps Jew hatred is the one thing Epyptian Copts and Moslems agree upon?
Someone straighten me out on this point, please.
Sorry, can’t offer any insight because we’re of the same mind, i.e. the Coptic Christian sect would likely not exist without the US in their corner. So why are they biting the hand that has protected them for a century?

I think Egyptian Christians need us more than we need them. If he thinks cuddling up to that snake is a good thing, he is as dumb as the other Pope.
Feelings, nothing more than feelings. Poor babies, they cannot handle the truth. Jerusalem IS the capitol of Israel.
So, we are not supposed to "offend" Arab people. Betcha most of these Arab people don't give a dang one way or another.
President Trump should retort that he did take their feelings "into account" - but in the end, he realized that their feelings simply didn't amount to a hill of beans.
