Trump will not speak publicly at opening of Mississippi’s Civil Rights Museum

President Donald Trump will participate in a separate private event at the new Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, on Saturday morning, rather than in the public ceremony. The decision came after the president’s plan to attend the opening erupted into controversy.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the White House agreed to have a separate event after a series of noteworthy civil rights leaders and speakers decided to boycott the event and local groups planned to protest.

Trump will tour the museum and speak at a private program in the morning, and the public ceremony will begin afterward.

"I think this was a diplomatic effort that will help solve this issue," said Mike Espy, a former Mississippi congressman and secretary of agriculture who served since the early 2000s on the state’s committee to establish the museum.

Now they're treating the President of the United States as someone they have to sneak in and sneak out. I think that Trump should back out of the event rather than accept this.

So the Clintoons and others can get away with using racist language that would probably make Archie Bunker blush, but Donald Trump is persona non grata at functions like these? Only in the Lewis Carrollesque world the Dems and their free lunch illusion created is this possible.

He’s doing what he has to do
Trump has supported civil rights and minority causes for many many years and the people he helped know that
Eventually maybe they will have the courage and integrity to thank him

Maybe Trump is afraid of slipping into his Southern dialect at the event?

“I ain’t noways tard.”

They don’t want him to speak truth to black folks in my home town. The truth is that my home town is a hell hole thanks to LBJ and his welfare state. The black family has been destroyed by white southern democrats and the black fat cats who joined them in enslaving blacks to the government plantation.

You can set them free and try to help them but you can't get them to leave the democrat plantations.

Here's an old country adage that describes the narrow vision of these plantation blacks quite well:

"They are eat up with the dumbass."

Now the former “niggres” are treating President Trump as a “nigger.”

Mississipi Civil Rights museum, you have a ‘nigger’ in your woodpile. And he IS NOT going away! ALL of America is a part of the Civil Rights movement!

President Trump is carrying the battle TO these liberal fascists.

Kudos to president Trump!

He should tweet that he’s doing this to keep the emphasis on civil rights in this country and not to let the zealots disrupt this event for their personal political goals.

GWB being in a march

Yes and most pictures from the march edit him out. So it’s like he really wasn’t there.

I agree. He should simply say “There has never been anyone accuse me of racism. And those calling me a racist today are all democrats so it’s simply politics. It’s a shame that the bloody civil Rights battles were all fought against democrats and now those calling me a racist are all democrats. But I will not attend any of the functions and allow the democrats to use me to draw attention away from the fact that it was the democrat party who used the fire hoses and police dogs on young black Americans and it was democrats who lynched blacks and burned churches all across the South. But I’ll never understand how people who were beaten by democrat politicians can now be members of the democrat party.”

I hear blacks at the VA constantly praising Trump. And usually white guys will demean them.

But will the ceremonies be "separate but equal"? Geez, the prior administration has set race relations back 40+ years!

Where are the "kumbye-a" folks who told me that they elected a black president to make race relations better???
