A great story told so beautifully and warmly. For the first time in my life I actually want to visit LA. Patrick Barkham, Environment Correspondent, The Guardian.
Sounds like a good film, especially for those who like the outdoors and wildlife. But i question spending $50 MILLION to save one cat in Griffith Park. Why don't they simply relocate the cat to a better area?
That would be Grumpy Cat!
It's Los Angeles. By the time everyone is paid off, it'll leave $20 to move the cat.
Shut up youre not allowed to make sense...
What you said is up there with calling a Snowflake a....Snowflake...
Give it a Prius.
Here’s how things work in California.
They get $50,000,000 to relocate one mountain lion.
$25,000,000 goes to the Democrat Party to buy votes.
$24,999,999 goes to the Democrat politicians to buy condos in Kauai.
The cat gets a buck for bus fare.
The cat votes Democrat for life.
If he crossed them to get in, he can cross them to get out - if he wants to.
All these humans, presuming to know what's best for all creatures!
Pay my round trip air fare and hotel and food expenses and I will come out and kill it for free.
Uhmmm, not true. The fifty million is for P22 “and the mountain lions of the Santa Monica Mountains.”
Thee must be lots of cougars in that part of California ... surely one would mate with the nice hansom gentleman pictured ...
I have named my new home and business Shakti Ranch because it represents a return to love and devotion to a spiritual path...for me and for others.
My intention is for Shakti Ranch to be a venue for practitioners in the healing arts to hold full or half-day retreats. "
Because that wouldn’t make them feel as good and with liberals, it’s all about feelings, not results.
Im sure its not just about the one cat. The article said its about all the cats in the park. But its probably not just them, from what Ive read about mountain lions they are extremely mobile. They require a large territory -thats probably how he ended up crossing freeways. When the Cubs grow up and go out on their own, they need to find new territory. If they dont then they usually starve or get killed by the mountain lions that own the territory they are in. With corridors being shut off due to urban sprawl, the Lions have nowhere to go.
They are a remarkable species, they can survive in anything between mountains and deserts. But they have to be able to get there first.
Yeh because nothing screams urban living like a bunch of mountain lions lurking around the yard. LOL!
Born free!
And life is worth living!
It’s worth about $50,000,000.
Just not the same.
Mountain Lions are really noble until they kill and eat some little girl’s pet.
I know the Santa Monica mountains well
Very nice Very remote. Nobody ever there
I particularly like the chamberlain trail and the boney mountains wilderness
That lion should have stayed put but it’s not in their nature
Malibu is right below (sycamore canyon )
Of course I bike it although it’s not allowed
The mountain lions/cougars out here are solitary creatures that hunt/eat deer and small game and avoid humans, livestock behind fences, etc-but a pet cat or dog running loose is a takeout meal for them.
They can be heard vocalizing at night, especially in the Spring-and I see their tracks when I’m hiking the trail between the woods at the foot of a limestone bluff and the river-so why wouldn’t mountain lions trapped in LA be happier if they were tranquilized, packed up, taken back into the forest and released? It would be a lot cheaper than those millions and I’m sure lonely guy P22 would find a female in his natural habitat-it isn’t like he is going to get a cabbie to take him to where the pavement princesses are so he can hire one for the night...
