Except that Christina isn't shooting a beaver.
I have an old Charles Addams cartoon of a man in an art museum. Down the hall is a Minotaur. I did not understand the meaning.
I was at the MET a few years ago and now I understand the cartoon. The museum is a labyrinth. You need a map and a compass to get through.
Thanks for posting.
This is one of the better pieces by the artist Balthus. A lot of his work is mere child pornography. But some is subtle. Of girls crossing over from children to women, coming to terms with their power and vulnerability. This is not kid stuff. It can be a temptation to perverts. But it is insulting to think say that a woman, but not a man, can capture all that is involved in this. A great museum such as New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is perfectly capable of doing justice to this pioneering artist and to our contemporary and ever changing sensibilities.
Well...the painting in question is pretty good but his other stuff...not so much.
Now how about all the classic homo erotic porn? Of course Im not familiar with the museums collection.
Only if one is a damned pervert!
Rush...not “wicker” and you can buy such chairs still, from quite a few different stores/companies.
SPOT ON...you know art and made a great comparison.
At least livius "got it" and that makes 3 of us who had the same idea about this particular painting.
Oh sister
It just needs a good restoration.
LoL
If you’re focussing on the child’s underpants, it’s YOU that has the problem,
Balthus Portrait of Andre Derain is much more slimy with the older man in his bathrobe and the half-dressed child girl sitting on his bed.
My daughter paints. So we’ve had a lot of discussions about layouts and circular patterning to draw attention throughout the painting, etc.
She would tear into this one for lack of structure, content, and depth. There is little skill involved in it’s development and layout.
That being said - if they felt it previously deserved a place in the museum.. for whatever reason (period piece, artists renown for other art, geography, etc) then I’m glad that they aren’t bowing down to anyone’s demands.
Oh, yeah. Cuz YOU didn’t even notice.
Amusing thread, getting everyone’s take, lol.
So Balthus - esteemed for decades by art historians - isn’t as good as your daughter’s work. OK, got it now.
These people would burn Donatello’s David because it, in fact, has a pre-teen boy nude as can be. Possibly my favorite sculpture.
That’s one of the more remote peninsulas in Maine! We had a hard time finding the “museum” but it’s the same as it was in the painting. Those type of large farmhouses sell for cheaply.
