A police officer in San Marcos, Texas, was shot and killed Monday afternoon when he was serving a warrant, police said.

Officer Ken Copeland, a veteran of the San Marcos Police Department since March 1998, was serving a warrant in the El Camino Real subdivison of the city when he was fatally shot, Police Chief Chase Stapp confirmed during a press conference Monday night.

Copeland — who was wearing a protective vest — and other officers were shot at by the suspect, "much like in an ambush type of situation."

He was taken to the Central Texas Medical Center immediately and was later pronouced dead at 3:50 p.m. local time, according to a press release from the city of San Marcos.

All the BS you hear about dirty cops shooting defenseless people get outweighed by these type of assaults which happen far more frequently. Every call these people make could be the last one of their lives and now it seems like every move they make is second-guessed and micro-managed.

RIP Officer Copeland. 20 years.

I notice they don’t give the name of the suspect, What the warrant was for, or if he was an illegal or not.

From another article:

“San Marcos/Hays County SWAT arrived to the scene and eventually the suspect exited the house and surrendered, Stapp said. The man had gunshot wounds, though it was unclear whether he had been shot by police or inflicted the injuries himself, he said.”

Haven’t found the identity of the killer as yet.

I just did a very detailed search, looking for the identity/ethnicity of the shooter. NO ONE is releasing that information. Not a single TV station, newspaper, radio station-—nada. That makes me really wonder if it was an illegal or black, because those are the ethnicities which are usually kept back in news stories unless they were the victim.

San Marcos is a nice little bedroom city between San Antonio and Austin. Would be a great place to live, as each city is about an hour from San Marcos.

“....I notice they don’t give the name of the suspect, What the warrant was for, or if he was an illegal or not....”

I’m not a betting man, but I’ll wager the perp is an illegal.
After that SF verdict, they’re scared spitless to tell the truth who it is because of the backlash....and rightly so. It will come out eventually. And if the perp is illegal, it reinforces the push for the wall and drives another nail in the DACA coffin...as if it needed any more.
