SIMI VALLEY, Calif (Reuters) - The U.S. agency tasked with protecting the country from missile attacks is scouting the West Coast for places to deploy new anti-missile defenses, two Congressmen said on Saturday, as North Korea’s missile tests raise concerns about how the United States would defend itself from an attack.

The government has not done so before now.

Total incompetence.

Look out for some numbnutz black-robed California twit appointed by Obama to throw a wrench into the works. Like issuing an order stating deploying missile defense violates someone’s “constitutional rights”. Like maybe Kim Jong Un’s.

NK being small and with the US being able to establish anti-missle batteries near the border or just offshore, I would think you’d be wanting to target the NORK missiles as soon as possible after launch, i. e. Before maximum velocity. You don’t want to be trying to intercept multiple warheads on re-entry (it has to be assumed that either Russia or China is providing NK with the technology so that they could already have MIRV capability). Is this technologically feasible?

There are a lot of old abandoned Nike bases on the west coast including my old home town of Brea CA. Complete start from scratch on the infrastructure, but that site at the top of the Brea Hills is still undeveloped.

Well, well. If this isn't an admission of failure to deal with NK, I don't know what is.
Now if it's to get ready for China, yes it's way past due, and hopefully not too late.

“The government has not done so before now.”

The liberal view on missile defense is that it is a provocation. I suppose it would be similar if people armed themselves with a hand gun. Self defense is provocative and dangerous. (No, actually, that is not sarcasm. As near as I can determine those are the liberal views on missile defense and gun ownership.)

Does the government have to put everything on the front page for you and others?

When's the last time in the last 8 years that you checked on Obama's "evaluation".

Obama was busy spying on Republicans for eight years while his Democrat intelligence agencies were supposed to be paying attention to North Korea’s nuclear projects.

Cheaper to just take out the NORKs and be done with it.

Install in the Oakland hills and use the TV towers in San Francisco as the aiming point.

..during the Cold War years, there was a NIKE missle base not too far from where I lived in El Monte—strange how things come around again...

Probably be sued. Oregon has sites from WWII. But we were on the right side, back then.

“... I would think you’d be wanting to target the NORK missiles as soon as possible after launch, i. e. Before maximum velocity... “

We have no such system targeting the boost stage yet - they are working on it.

Aegis systems must be in the target zone to be effective.

The 20 SM-1 missiles stationed in AK target the descent stage only; there are no more missiles as Zero gutted the program; they are good for about 4 or 5 incoming only as 3 or 4 will be targeted at each incoming - a system easily overwhelmed.

At the moment, we are extremely vulnerable ...
