Republicans Will Cut Social Security And Medicare After Tax Plan Passes, Says Marco Rubio
Newsweak via Yahoo ^ | December 2nd, 2017 | Nicole Goodkind

Florida Senator Marco Rubio admits that the Republican tax cut plan to aid corporations and the wealthy will require cuts to Social Security and Medicare to pay for it.

Rubio told reporters this week that in order to address the federal deficit, which will grow by at least $1 trillion if the tax plan passes, Congress will need to cut entitlement programs such as Social Security. Advocates for the elderly and the poor have warned that entitlement programs would be on the chopping block, but this is the first time a prominent Republican has backed their claims.

“We have to do two things. We have to generate economic growth which generates revenue, while reducing spending. That will mean instituting structural changes to Social Security and Medicare for the future,” Rubio told a crowd at a Politico conference. Rubio's talk of structural change is vague, but will likely include changing the rate and age of Social Security and Medicare payouts.

“Is Rubio trying to torpedo this before conference, or provide Dem talking points?”

Sounds like the answer to both questions is ‘yes’.

We are 20 TRILLION in debt. 220 TRILLION if you want to consider future SS and Medicare/Medicaid. Civilizations don't last forever and this one is staring at a crash. So...

Adjustments to entitlements are essential, granted, but I hope that's not where they start. It's like closing national parks during a government shutdown...first targeting services that affect citizens.

How about government waste, firing employees, selling government properties, eliminating entire departments, unleashing energy economy, ash-canning baseline budgeting...for top-of-mind starters.

I thank God we don't have kids who will have to deal with this. It won't be pretty.

Everyone here would be absolutely shocked to find out how many SS disability people can actually work....but they don’t because SS disability pays more for doing Nothing. There are some that actually need it, but a large percent that is just lazy entitlement free shit army moochers.

“I heard a Dem using these talking points this morning.”

The dems have been using these scare talking points since the 1960’s. My wonderful grandmother was a widow and heard this bs from the evening news and panicked. Everyone reassured her that this would not happen. She still worried about it as long as she lived.

Flash forward to the late 70’s/80’s, it was time to scare my parents, aunts and uncles with the same bs.

Nothing happened then nor will it happen now.

Just refund me all of the hundreds of thousands of $ plus interest that I have paid into it over my lifetime. Oh wait, they have already spent it and all that is left are IOUs. Ya know, Algores lock box.

Also, what happens when all of the illegals get amnesty and can claim their retirement benefits even though they have never paid a penny into it? The math proves that it is wrong.

First, Rubio is an idiot and a traitor.

Second, I believe there’s lots of fraud in SSDI, but I dont know how.

I had a pretty serious head injury and I was denied the first time and the medical papers and signatures and testimonies here in NYC needed for the judge to grant it (was on it for 6 years till a finally got well enough to work again) were pretty powerful.

About 2 years after the injury i showed up for court looking like hell and I was still grilled (fairly) about my condition.

He actually threw out the neuropathy part as baseless even though i was in agonizing pain from it. Dont blame it. You can’t prove neuropathy.

But the blinding headaches and trouble walking (at the time) among other things got me the SSDI.

Maybe it depends on where you live.

Does Newsweek ever print the truth? What is the point in posting media empire lies?

“One of the things Rubio talked about was raising the retirement agent for Social Security which has been discussed before.”

Both programs require re-tooling for the long term.

That means cuts. And/or Tax Increases.

They try this and they wont ever be in charge of the CONgress ever again.

Social Security is backwards. I took early retirement. And was limited to how much I could make outside of the system. 14,500 I think was the number. IF I reach full retirement-66, I can make all I want.
As if I will be able to work that much by then. It should be the other way around. At early retirement, you should be able to make, say up to, 40 or 50 grand. Then that falls off to the present 16920, which is the max now, when you reach full retirement age. Those people, like myself will be adding into the system while collecting it.

Heck, the tax bill is or was going to cut the state and local tax write off and people panicked. It certainly will cost them more but it was hiding the real problem — massively high taxes in some states. States that tend to be liberal — CA, NY, NJ, etc. etc.

SS disability is a prime target. Adjust retirement age is a no-brainer. I’m OK with means testing....the debt MUST be addressed if the country is to survive.

“Adjustments to entitlements are essential, granted, but I hope that’s not where they start.”

That’s where the money is. 80% or so of the budget.

Of course, nothing else in this bloated government could be cut.

Of course not. The Gubmint always makes cuts to things that will hurt the little people the most.

It's a backhand slap to the people who want taxes to be lower. It has been happening ever since Prop. 13 in CA and Prop. 2 1/2 in MA.

"Oh, you want lower taxes? Fine. We'll have to cut down on staffing of the police forces and teachers and fire departments...and possibly some other essential services. Oh, you thought we would trim the fat and cut useless staff at the Sate House? Be careful what you wish for."

It is amazing to me how people, even on FR, still believe the old media empire. One thing is certain, the old media is quite adept at getting the weak minded to attack rat party opponents.

I have posted before, and I am not joking, the suggestion that Jim charge a $25 donation for any Newsweak, Slime, Compost, NY Slimes or LASlimes article posted.

Then, charge a $5 donation to the trolls that jump on the article agree with it.

The Progressive definition of a cut is to reduce the future increase.
