San Francisco Defends Sanctuary Status as Backlash Mounts

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The attacks on San Francisco and other cities with similar immigration policies began moments after a jury acquitted a Mexican man of killing a woman on a popular pier, some calling for a boycott of the city that fiercely defends its reputation as a refuge for all.

President Donald Trump called the verdict a "complete travesty of justice," and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions demanded cities like San Francisco scrap immigration policies that bar cooperation with federal deportation efforts.

Twitter users turned to the hashtags #BoycottSanFrancisco and #kateswall to demand construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall that Trump has called for. Conservative politicians and celebrities such as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and actor James Woods lambasted the city as unsafe.

I’ll never forget Kate’s last words said to her father, “Help me Daddy.” How can he live with that memory?

“There is absolutely NOTHING that justifies their behavior. This was an open insult and outrage to all American citizens and legal guests. The message is clear. San Francisco must be subdued.”

If Sessions had more than baby pea sized nuts he could figure out the grounds for arresting the entire San Francisco government.Yo Jeff..ask Santa for a spine, Enough of this shit already.

Why are all the gun-grabbers so silent on this one?

The feral posters on the CBS News comment boards started off with their "thanks NRA" crap, until they got shut down with the news that their beloved government was the source of the stolen gun. I fear the quality of Talking Points is going down.

Personally, I thought he was carrying the gun around in a cloth because he was looking for somebody to sell it to. I don’t think he meant to kill her, since they have shown that the bullet hit the sidewalk and richoceted a few hundred feet to hit her, but he was a career petty criminal and was probably just doing what those people do. That is, nothing legal.

As foe the “sanctuary city” stuff, how in the world is it legal for a city or region to just decide they don’t agree with federal law and refuse to abide by it? And even announce it proudly? I honestly don’t understand why they are allowed to get away with this.

The shooter has just a second grade education......which has been a huge thorn for the police and the courts in communicating..... that with his criminal mind and history you’ve got a really mixed bag to contend with...

Bottom line was he should never had been allowed to escape deportation efforts.

I don't think anyone should be shocked about the not guilty murder verdict.

From the very beginning, the shooter claimed that the gun went off accidentally, and that he never pulled the trigger.

In addition, the bullet struck the sidewalk in front of the woman and ricocheted into her body.

Trying to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the shooter deliberately targeted the woman was never going to be easy.

There is also another dimension to this case that would have tempted me into jury nullification.

The prosecution gave the jury THREE murder charges to choose from - from memory: Murder 2, Voluntary Manslaughter, or Involuntary Manslaughter.

That gimmick is a steaming pile of legal crap, in my opinion. The job of the prosecution is to prove the charge it brings. Instead, in many jurisdictions, the prosecution presents its evidence, then it gives the jury a grab bag of charges it can convict on.

In my opinion, that is flagrantly unconstitutional.

In any event, the shooter was convicted of felony possession of a firearm, which means he may do some hard time, unless the USA feds release him back to Mexico again.

I do not claim to know a great deal re this travesty of justice. I do know that bullets when fired at a sidewalk do not normally act like tennis balls and bound high in the air to hit someone in the head. A bullet is a chunk of lead (usually) and deforms and actually deflects typically only a few degrees.

Perhaps the bullet did not hit the sidewalk, some reporting on a support for a pier of some sort.

Ballistics experts must have been introduced at some point, but nothing heard by the pubic?? about such a matter.

Please explain how a second grade education was a hindrance to him hiring a coyote and getting himself across the Southern border multiple times? Non sequitur.

As long as sanctuary cities/states officials think they can defy the law with impunity nothing will happen. Only when one or more are arrested and prosecuted will the others fall in line. Even the withholding of Federal funds will only steel their resolve as they send their lawyers before sympathetic judges to delay the withholding of funds.

The only way then to economically hurt San Francisco is via the marketplace.

Terence Hallinan and Kamala Harris (both SF district attorneys) did not believe in the death penalty, even for cop killers.

So you can kill American citizens, police officers, anybody you want in SF and live to tell about it.

Maybe SF is like a mini California.

Maybe there are a lot of decent people stuck there who are victims of an utterly insane vity government.

Two things: “BUILD THE WALL, AROUND SAN FRANCISCO”.

Calling Snake Plisken. Don’t go there.

Secondly, give the NORCS the target coordinates for S.F. - “Nuke SF, spare Seoul”.

When I was five years old, in the early 50s, my Dad was recalled to the Navy for the Korean War, and we lived on the Alameda Naval Air Station, while Dad served at the old Oakland Naval Air Station, now Oakland International.

Looking across the bay, San Francisco was a magical place. We went there often and it was so clean and nice.

Now, it is a cesspool of depravity and anti-Americanism. It is a bastion of hatred, mascarading as a place of love.

San Francisco and California have forfeited their position in America. I will, wherever possible, avoid products and services from this state and city.

The one service that I will use is Free Republic. Beyond that, I will try and avoid all others. It will not be easy, but I will give it my best shot.
