Republican Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor said Thursday she would not drop out of the governor's race after the bombshell announcement that Attorney General Mike DeWine and Secretary of State Jon Husted would join together on a ticket.
DeWine and Husted are both the fundraising and polling leaders in the GOP primary to succeed term-limited Gov. John Kasich. The two announced Thursday they would combine forces with DeWine running as governor and Husted as his number two.
Speculation mounted that Taylor, who has lagged DeWine, Husted and U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci in campaign cash, would announce she was dropping out of the race.
However, the Kasich-backed candidate said she was continuing her campaign.
"Today's announcement by my opponent is great news for political consultants and lobbyists," Taylor said at a press conference in Columbus. "But those aren't the people I support. I speak for the people. Mike DeWine is the past. I will fight for Ohio's future. "
The DeWine-Husted announcement shook up the dynamics of the governor's race, with the two taking on a more establishment role, leaving an outsider lane for both Taylor and Renacci.
Both have rolled out staunchly conservative platforms - such as ending the Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act - and touted their affinity for President Donald Trump. DeWine and Husted have been more tepid in their support for Trump, though both did support him in the 2016 election.
Taylor has the backing of the disgusting Kasich but is supportive of the President.
Renacci strikes me as the best conservative choice.
What do Ohio freepers think? Who do you back? Who does Taylor take more support from?
Ping
I won’t vote for anyone mailman backs.
DeWine is ok, Husted is more conservative...Husted cleaned up the voter rolls.
I’m undecided at this point. After Kasich, I’m not sure I trust any of them. Maybe Renacci, since he has been a non-wavering Trump supporter.
I have been to events where Husted was the speaker - sharp guy, very pro-business - good speaker. I thought he was going to run for Governor. DeWine is 70 and looks older. He could be a on term guy clearing the way for Husted.
As an Ohioan I am going with Renacci
Ditto
Rennaci only. The others make me want to vomit.
DeWino the RINO, a Kasicko
Ohio PING!!!
Ohio Governor race
Looking for someone (or two can share it) to take over the Ohio ping list.
That's my take anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if Renacci surprised. Voters in OH seem to be on top of issues and politics for the past few years.
I hope everybody remembers that Dewine spent his time in the Senate sniffing McCain’s jockstrap, it was so bad it looked like he had a school girl crush on him. Ohio can do better then this cuck!
Renacci is the best of the bunch. DeWine was a lousy RINO Senator who lost to Sherrod Brown in 2006. He’ll be almost as bad as Pig Vomit has been as Governor. Hopefully Taylor will take votes from DeWine and allow Renacci to sail through.
I’m involved in the Transportation - Logistics Business in the Columbus area. Husted has met with our industry groups and answered some very tough questions. He would be 1000% better than Kasuck.
I’m not a dewine fan
Dewine isn’t liked in Ohio. A decent demicrat will beat him
It’s good to hear from someone who has had personal contact with Husted who is impressed by him. You’re seeing him as someone who would be impressive as someone relating to business interests. What I’m concerned about is that OH Republicans, once they get in power, have a real bad habit of abandoning their social conservative, pro-Constitution voters. Is Husted on board with the Deplorable Agenda? Did he vote for Trump, or was he like Kasick and Portman, who wouldn’t even vote for their party’s nominee?
DeWine is a former McCain puppet in the Senate. He’s a Globalist New World Order type buddy of the Bush cabal.
