•Sen. John McCain will back the Senate Republican tax bill. •McCain was one of the last remaining GOP holdouts on the bill. •His stance boosts the Senate's chances of approving the legislation by Friday.

Sen. John McCain will back the Senate GOP's tax bill, increasing the plan's chances of clearing the Senate by Friday.

McCain was one of the last GOP senators who had not committed to supporting the proposal.

"After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to support the Senate tax reform bill," McCain said in a statement Thursday. "I believe this legislation, though far from perfect, would enhance American competitiveness, boost the economy, and provide long overdue tax relief for middle class families."

McCain's stance, as well as an expected "yes" vote from Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, leaves few GOP senators undecided. Republican leaders are tweaking the bill to ease concerns by other skeptical senators, including Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn.; James Lankford, R-Okla.; Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Ron Johnson, R-Wis., and Steve Daines, R-Mont.

All Republican senators voted Wednesday to start debate on the bill.

Don’t worry, an orchestrated failure is part of the plan.

There must be something wrong with the bill. Some poison pill. John McCain is a domestic enemy of the Constitution. Why would he go along with more economic freedom?

He won't be running again, but some of the other Republicans who get along with McCain may have made a personal appeal.

I hope those at FR are more astute than this. McCain is not easy to predict — as bad as he is, he will not vote straight liberal, which then he’ll be predictable and therefore it’s not really “news” like it is now.

He has to be unpredictable, like Kennedy on the Supreme Court. Supreme Court arguments are now mostly crafted to convince Anthony Kennedy, as he is the one who will decide whether a liberal or conservative outcome.

Same with McCain. It is self-serving and I think he enjoys this role. So some here at FR that think he’ll now always vote on the liberal side are being too simplistic.

“Something’s up. McCain hates Trump like BLM hates white people.”

McCain knows Flake, Corker and Collins will bring it to 49 votes and won’t pass. It’s typical. McCain falsely saves face and Flake and Corker aren’t running again.

They should go after Manchin and the Senator from ND. Get them on board. Manchin should vote yes, just for the reason that Trump brought 87 billion in investment to WV.
