It's more or less a mirror image of how reporting of racially motivated violence by blacks is treated in the US. Blacks attacking elderly white victims ("polar bear hunting" and "the knockout game") is reported as attacks by generic "youths" and "young men." Report the racial motive, or even mention the race of the attackers, and you can kiss a career as a journalist goodbye.
