Shep Smith....the pride of Oxford.
Please don’t remind me. I had a home in that wonderful town for 16 years, and plan to retire there someday. Shemp is a card-carrying member of the liberal loon fringe you find in any college town and Oxford is no exception.
Actually, Shep was born/raised in Holly Springs, just up Highway 7. So technically, he’s the Pride of Holly Springs. That must make the folks there really, really proud.
Shep was gone long before my time on the Ole Miss faculty. Also worth noting he did not graduate; purportedly left school one class shy of his degree to take an entry-level TV job in Florida. To my knowledge, Ole Miss has never offered to waive that “last class” and award his bachelor’s.
I’m told Shep has a condo in Oxford; his father lives there and Mr. Newsman and his boyfriend come back several times a year for football games. Never ran into The Anchorman during my years in Oxford, and for that, I’m eternally grateful.
