Gorsuch Draws Rave Reviews in First Year on Supreme Court

More than 2,000 conservatives in tuxedos and gowns recently filled Union Station's main hall for steak dinner and the chance to cheer the man who saved the Supreme Court from liberal control.

Justice Neil Gorsuch didn't disappoint them, just as he hasn't in his first seven months on the Supreme Court.

"Tonight I can report that a person can be both a publicly committed originalist and textualist and be confirmed to the Supreme Court," Gorsuch said to sustained applause from members of the Federalist Society, using terms by which conservatives often seek to distinguish themselves from more liberal judges.

The 50-year-old justice has been almost exactly what conservatives hoped for and liberals dreaded when he joined the court in April. He has consistently, even aggressively, lined up with the court's most conservative justices. He has even split with Chief Justice John Roberts, viewed by some as insufficiently conservative because of his two opinions upholding President Barack Obama's health law.

During arguments, Gorsuch has asked repeatedly about the original understanding of parts of the Constitution and laws, and he has raised questions about some long-standing court precedents, including the civil rights landmark ruling on "one person, one vote.

Liberals' despair about Gorsuch goes beyond his judicial actions. He occupies a seat once held by Justice Antonin Scalia which they thought Obama would get to fill. But Senate Republicans refused to consider Obama's nominee, a strategy that paid off when Donald Trump unexpectedly won the White House.

At the Federalist Society, Gorsuch recognized the improbable turn of events that led him from an appellate judgeship in Colorado to America's highest court.

If someone had told Gorsuch a year ago what would soon transpire, "I would have said that you had taken way too much advantage of my home state's generous drug laws,"

That’s it in a nutshell isn’t it.

That’s why I skewered Cruz for months on end for his lackluster support of Trump during and after the convention right up until the election.

He spent two days during all that time, doing his duty by the letter of the law party wise during that period.

With guys like McCain, Romney, and Cruz, who needs enemies.

Hillary appointing judges, doesn’t matter,... Trump said something I didn’t like. Don’t bother me while I, “Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

Trump continues to govern as the most Conservative president in living history. People who attack him over not being a “real” conservative are liars.

Definitely a highlight of Trump’s year. He could very well have another shot next year.

I remember PDJT choosing Gorsuch and conservatives rejoicing over the pick. However there was nervousness when they discovered that he was a member of a liberal Episcopalian church. That died down with his Scalia-like rulings. RBG lies about him, so that means he’s the real deal!

Prophecies of Kim Clement and Mark Taylor say that God is re-ordering SCOTUS even more. The next judge will retire (probably Kennedy of California - see below) and then 3 will resign due to scandal. Mark Taylor says ‘Roe vs Wade’ will be overturned after this. Something to look to in the remaining 7 years of President Trump!

Charles Scamp, another prophet, says: “As I was in prayer for the nation of America, I was shown a shift taking place in the Supreme Court of the United States. I saw the reign of one from California that will come to an end and another will take their place.

I heard the Lord say, “I am raining My righteousness upon the highest court in this land. I will reverse the curse and judgment placed upon My people and release justice and truth from the highest seat in this nation. I have chosen who sits in the seat of power in your country, and I will also choose those who will sit in the seat of justice in your land.”

Sandra Day O'Connor was pretty solid her first year on the court as well, and voted with Rehnquist 87% of the time her first three years on the court. If you asked conservatives to rate her back in '82, with only a few months of decisions to go by, they'd be pretty pleased with her record thus far.

So I stand by exactly what I said. O'Connor turned out to be "socially moderate", specifically pro-abortion, and didn't vote to overturn any of the awful liberal "landmark precedents" of Earl Warren or Warren Burger era courts.

I expect the same of Gorsuch. If votes to override stuff like abortion or homo marriage I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Until then, replacing Scalia with this guy was a big downgrade IMO.

One good point for The Mitch is he held this seat open.
