Skip to comments.GOP senator: We shouldn’t play games with dueling CFPB appointments

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) on Sunday said he hopes politicians wont play those kind of games on dueling appointments to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
My hope is, you know, that we wont play those kind of games," Portman told NBCs Meet the Press when asked about dueling appointments by Cordray and President Trump for interim directors of the independent agency. Portman backed Trump's authority to decide who will lead the agency, which is now without a director.
Portman also criticized exiting CFPB director Richard Cordray for trying to "circumvent" the president in appointing a new leader of the bureau. Cordray stepped down on Friday from his post as the head of the bureau, but first promoted chief of staff Leandra English to serve as the deputy director, a position which is directed by the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act to lead the bureau in the absence of a director.
Trump, also on Friday, appointed White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney to serve as the bureaus interim director.
First of all, my understanding is that Richard Cordray resigned a week earlier than he was planning to in order to put his deputy in charge, you know, trying to circumvent the normal process would be that the president would have the ability to appoint somebody on an interim basis until Congress confirms a new director, Portman said.
The Trump administration has argued it is legally allowed to appoint Mulvaney to serve as the interim director.
"That, you know, that well have an interim process here and that would be Mick Mulvaney or somebody else, the president chooses, and then Congress will get busy in confirming a new director," Portman said he hoped.
Portman also on Sunday said lawmakers should move to confirm a new director for the bureau quickly.
Is Portman a ‘Rat wanting to grow the State at the expensive of Personal Liberty and tax slavery?
He Hopes dems wont obstruct, lie, and continue to harm the USA?
Why would he expect that?
Dear Senator Portman: Your job is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to listen to the lamentations of their women.
Since you obviously are not equal to the task, just STFU and do what President Trump tells you to.
Drain the swamp.
According to what I’m reading, Portman is backing Trump on this, no?
Rob Portman, another GOPe pud! These feckless idiots never miss an opportunity to flap their gums negatively about anything and everything President Trump does.
I sit here in wonderment at how we could have been so misled as to have elected these worthless a$$holes in the first place. We owe Donald Trump a debt of gratitude for being the force that has exposed the GOPe for what it is and has always been, a pile of excrement. The task ahead is to either take the Republican Brand away from these self-serving morons, or replace it with a new Party that serves the interests of the people.
CFPB...didn’t SCOTUS say this was a unconstitutional board?
It amazes me how many Bush type republicans do not understand how politics work.
>>According to what Im reading, Portman is backing Trump on this, no? <<
Apparently some just read the headline.
Does not the President control who gets paychecks and who doesn’t? Control the money they use to operate? Have other people, who also work for him, stop giving money to the usurpers and to anything they want money for. Starve them out. Also, block the doors with US marshalls.
Drop the temporary appointment by sending a permanent candidate to the Senate first thing Monday morning. Get McConnell off his behind to hold hearings and a quick vote. Problem solved.
I’m sitting here in wonderment at some posters here cutting Portman when the article clearly says t ha he is backing Trump on this. What problem do you have with that?
Unbelievable the hate posts on this thread! People getting their exercise jumping to conclusions this morning. Bad thing is they jump to conclusions and then go all over posting it as fact.
Agreed, the Hill deliberately gave it a headline that could convey an anti-Trump message, contrary to the story.
Yes, Portman is backing Trump, but no one is reading the article.
He’s backing President Trump on this one, so why are you angry?
