A company in Duluth, Minnesota, has fired about 50 employees who refused to get flu shots, according to KBJR 6.
KBJR 6 on Tuesday reported that Essentia Health had set a Monday deadline for staff to get the injections.
Essentia told employees, students, vendors and volunteers in September that they had three options in relation to the vaccinations.
The health care provider said that the individuals affected could get the shot, secure an approved medical or religious exemption, or leave the company.
Dr. Rajesh Prabhu, who is Essentias chief of patient quality and safety, on Tuesday said that the organizations mandate had two goals.
Prabhu noted that Essentia wanted to improve patient safety, adding that the company also realized that its 82 percent flu vaccination rate from last year would not rise voluntarily.

Govt. Researchers: Flu Shots Not Effective in Elderly, After All
I saw an article a few weeks ago saying that people who get the flu shot have a HIGHER mortality rate than those who don’t, but as you would expect Google has made it disappear.
I would get the flu shot, than immediately take week medical leave, claiming a reaction.
All bogus. It’s just a wealth transfer/income payment to the company and that’s all. The Federal government reimbursement rate for each flu shot given is around $172 if I remember correctly. That’s a nice little windfall for a Health company.
One of my parents was told to NOT get a flu shot. I do believe, however, that my getting a flu shot prevented me getting all the crud going around our area last year and I intend on getting another shot.
I figure, if I get it, I'll muddle through and get one next year since that flu vaccine will be based on this year's flu coming out of Asia. But until I actually get influenza, I'll pass. The side effects can be worse than the infection.
Minnesota is an employment “at will” state. An employee can quit for any reason; an employer can fire any employee for any reason as long as that reason is not illegal, such as discrimination based on race, creed, color, sex, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation or marital status.
I’d say it’s best to get the shots after you turn 40, as your immune system slowly weakens. Prior to that, providing that one is otherwise healthy, getting blasted by the flu is probably good in the long term.
People at higher risk are more strongly advised to get the flu shot, so higher mortality is not a surprise.
On the original topic, the company is stupid for firing their employees, but they have a right to be stupid. As for the employees, I get the flu shot voluntarily, but I’d rather be fired than stay with a company that thinks they have a right to that much power over their workers.
I don’t get the flu shot because I don’t get the flu. But if I was in a profession where I saw sick people all the time I’d get the shot. It’s pretty SOP for all the shots to be mandatory in the medical world.

Scroll down the link for the info on the elderly. CDC still recommends vaccination for seniors. Details at the link. And in a health care setting, firing refuseniks is appropriate.
Hate to break a decades old record by getting a flu shot now.
I haven’t had a flu shot since I exited the military in 1992. For about 3-4 years I got really bad colds but afterwards I haven’t had but maybe two or three really bad cases of the sniffles since.
I am 57 and have not ad a Cold or Flu in 15 years, never had a flu shot and don’t plan on it.
Very interesting since the govt provides the flu vaccine for free. So why would they reimburse somebody? I would be interested in reading the source of your info.
Paper pushers that NEVER come into contact with patients (I call them customers) are forced to take the shot.
And therein lies the rub. The flu shot will protect you against the strains of flu it's designed for, but in the process of doing so it will further weaken, temporarily, an immune system that age has already weakened. You may be using that immune system while that's going on ... for instance, against a growing tumor, or an opportune infection of some other sort. The bottom line is that if you need the flu shot you probably shouldn't get it.
I saw an article that said 9/11 was an inside job.
I saw an article that said Trump colluded with Russia to steal the election.
I saw an article that said Bat Boy was running amok.
I can find articles saying just about anything. I guess we believe what we want.
Wasn’t the epidemic of the Walking Dead started over flu shots?
**** the CDC and their ‘advice’.
