You’re exactly right, we mourn the loss of beautiful things much more than ugly things.

Let me help you put it in perspective, since you seem to have missed perspective.

If you were fired from a job, which kind of job would you then miss the most, a job you hated, or a job you loved?

Although the bells tolls for us all, both pretty and plain, there is a some truth in Poe’s claim - from his “Philosophy of Composition” - that “the death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world.”.
