What is the danger that Roy Moore poses to the Senate GOP?

Judge Roy Moore will do what is right for Alabama and for America. And when Majority Leader McConnell calls for a unanimous vote to declare the Senate to be in a Pro Forma Session, Senator Moore will not mislabel it. If Congress is in recess, and no serious business is being conducted, he will vote to call it a recess. You see, Congress has these “pro forma” sessions that pretend Congress is still in session so the President cannot make any recess appointments to any position. But I suspect the key to these votes is that they have been unanimous. Under Senate rules, if just one senator doesn’t play ball, a vote is required on the record. Senator Moore is likely to be that one senator. And the other senators don’t want to be on the record, sabotaging their President. And therein lies the $30 million problem….

Once upon a time, Presidents routinely made recess appointments. President Clinton made 139 recess appointments, and President George W. Bush made 171. But when he was majority leader, Senator Reid used the pro forma rules to stymie President Bush. Turnabout is fair play. Senator McConnell used the same technique to stymie President Obama appointees. Of course, President Obama, with no respect for tradition or rules, appointed people anyway, only to have his appointments struck down by the Supreme Court.

The establishment Republicans (and democRATS) in the Senate know the jig is up if Moore makes it into the chamber. He will expose them and their shenanigans and chicanery to the American public.

Ted Cruz will look saintly in comparison with how much of a thorn in the ass of McTurtle and the rest of these elites Roy Moore will be.

He will not go along to get along.

After searching, it appears there is no Senate caucus comparable to the House Freedom Caucus.

Is this correct?

No, that has nothing to do with it. They don’t spend $30 million to stop one ideologue... there is a functional not ideological reason behind that kind of insanity

If they do this to a very prominent constitutional conservatives, then they frighten all the others away.

But effective. Unfortunately.

Not so much. Didn't stop Trump, and hasn't really worked on Moore.

Besides the fact that the accusers just aren't credible, most of the accusations might make it into the "creepy" category and that is about it. And who hasn't had someone of the opposite sex mistakenly think you are making a pass at them?

Compare that with real assault accusations against Franken and Weinstein, and the case against Moore is extraordinarily weak.

It was beyond stupid for Mitch to even try, but par for what we've come to expect from him. The main effect will be against republicans in general as it incites the left, and even if it succeeds Mitch has one less republican in the senate.

A competent leader doesn't get into a passive-aggressive catfight with someone they need to be able to work with no matter how much they dislike the person.

Sorry but no, they aren’t spending $30 Million to stop an ideologue.... that kind of money is spent for pragmatic reason.
