Terrorists have killed 235 people and injured over 100 others in a mosque attack in Sinai, Egypt. The militants opened fire on worshippers during Friday prayer. It is the deadliest attack on Egyptian civilians ever waged by Islamic extremists, according to the Associated Press.
The terrorists have been wreaking havoc in the region for years, but no attack had reached this magnitude.
The attack targeted a mosque frequented by Sufis, members of Islam’s mystical movement, in the north Sinai town of Bir al-Abd. Islamic militants, including the local affiliate of the Islamic State group, consider Sufis heretics because of their less literal interpretations of the faith.
The IS affiliate has been waging a stepped-up campaign of violence in northern Sinai for years and has claimed deadly bombings on churches in the capital, Cairo, and other cities, killing dozens of Christians. It also is believed to have been behind the 2016 downing of a Russian passenger jet that killed 226.
But this was the first major militant attack on a Muslim mosque and the startling bloodshed eclipsed any past attacks of its kind, even dating back to a previous Islamic militant insurgency in the 1990s.
The militants reportedly fired on the worshippers from four off-road vehicles and blocked escape routes.

My son just left Egypt early this morning our time. He had spent 4 weeks backpacking thru Egypt and 10 days traveling thru Lebanon. Luckily, he skipped the Sinai, but was there when 54 Egyptian policemen were killed in an ambush south of Cairo a few weeks ago.
Stop importing these people into our country. Send back the ones already here

OK.........But being the wrong kind of Muslim in the eyes of other Muslims means all promises are abrogated.
Sunnis vs Shi’ites...how’s that worked out over the last fourteen centuries? And Sufis can be just as mean & murderous as the first two, they are not gentle mystics.
These types of events are why folks should take seriously the anti-terrorism Arab summit earlier this year.
A lot of them are sick of it too.
Note the Saudi comments on Hezbollah.

Sufis aren’t regarded as Muslims by the Muslim sects that trace back to Mohammed. It’s been said that Sufis predate Islam. In some ways they’re more akin to Buddhism than Islam.

In fact Sufis are actually Sunnis, differing from most by having what we would call a charismatic or mystical philosophy. They arent Shiites.
The real diff re Sufis is the extreme literalist school of Muslim interpretation, the Wahabbis, Deobandis, etc. that take more seriously the precise text of the Koran and the Hadiths, especially in judicial interpretation. Differ by some tiny degree and they will kill you.
The real cause for this though is politics. The Muslim Brotherhood wants power back in Egypt and they are doing what they think they need to to destabilize the government. Religion is a rationalization.
Sufis can be either Shiites or Sunnis and are non-violent. World War Two British SOE agent Noor Inayat Khan (code name Madelaine) was from a Sufi family and was an accomplished musician and author of children’s stories. Her father was from India and was a Sufi teacher. Sufis are often the target of the wrath of the Islamic “true believers”.
Why don’t they just tell you it’s all men ?
